It's a good fight. Clearly, they steered Canelo away from Lara, but it's fair because Canelo is coming off a loss, and it's not like Angulo is a pushover. It's an action fight. It'll be fun to watch.

Getting the biggest pay day of his career after winning 2 of his last 4. This is a blessing for Angulo, good retirement money. Hes not beating a top 5 fighter in the div.
But he had, or has, the potential to be the top fighter- or a top fighter, rather than a gate-keeper/borderline journeyman.

You know exactly how they do it- steer a prospect up for about 25-30 fights, a good lot of bums with a few over the hill contenders or champions, mix in a young but inexperienced prospect, and you train him up for a title fight at the top level. Hopefully he wins out or has a fantastic showing, as he is prone to do.

This is just continually putting him in meaningless situations... when he could and should have had better.
I think they knew the lay of his max when he was being out sped and out boxed by James Kirkland. He's done very well to make a second run of it but he went to war with a previously vulnerable Lara and got topped, fair and square. Promotions get to this point where a guys yesterday's have exceeded what looks to be left and the investment has peaked so he'll have a fighting chance...but it's the Alvarez future being steered and bet on here.
Probably a bit harsh. He gassed against Kirkland going for the kill. He didn't think anyone could handle his power. If he paced himself he'd probably have got the win there. Same with Tapia.

As for Lara. I have Lara as a top 10 boxer at the moment and he put up a great fight. I feel that fight will ruin him tho. Can't see his chin being as strong again or him having that desire anymore.
Yeh, thats a fair call. I've always liked Angulo I just meant he maxed out and got the most for what he brought to the table. The Visa and deportation hiatus didn't help either. This is just another chapter in how boxing recycles and rotates. I'd rather see this as a final huge chance for him then waltzing along in much lesser fights taking more damage. Don't think that injury will see him go further, not with his style.

Totally agree, Angulo hit his plateau with the Cintron fight. The inactivity eroded things further his style should set him up for a few more paydays before the sun sets on his career

Good tactical fight for Canelo. Anything but a TKO win over a slow, ponderous, shopworn Angulo will be an UNDERACHIEVEMENT for Canelo. But he should dominate because he's younger, fresher, faster, and hits hard. Perfect fight to make fickle fans forget how awfully he was schooled and exposed against Mayweather.

I'll be ten blocks away from the MGM at a wedding. I think Angulo's style brings out the best in canelo.
