    Default Kovalev's performance.

How would you rate his performance last night? Sure, he was countered, and the fight lasted longer than we thought it would, but really, he dominated the fight. We now know how he does when he's cut, and that he has the stamina to go the later rounds.

Agnew has a good chin and defensive skills, and he counters well. He's crafty and uses illegal tactics. After a couple of rounds, he was in full survival mode.

Someone like that isn't easy to KO.

Cedric was a more difficult puzzle to solve than several previous opponents, but Kovalev impressed me by finding the solution.

Cedric was tough and had a good defense but he was not punching back. That's not such a difficult opponent.

Also he was completely unheard of.

Kovalev looked good though and his power is legit. Good chin on him too n some smarts.

Agnew Is the epitome of ordinary and kov did a good job on him..

Stevenson has a tougher fight coming up against Fonfara...

Nothing special but he's far more experienced and proven than snot nosed Agnew who has done nothing.. His balls probably havent even dropped yet.. That's how irrelevant he is right now.

Fonfara has been fighting since 06 and has some decent wins over Johnson and Campillo.

Who knows.. Agnew might develope into a superior fighter in the future but right now, Fonfara is a bigger threat imo..

    Great performance.

I don't care how hard you hit, you're going to run into a guy who you're not going to be able to blast out of there early. Agnew was a guy who bundled into a tight defensive shell and offered very little openings for Kovalev. Kovalev showed maturity and intelligence by not over exerting himself and gassing out. He chopped Agnew down in a methodical way, dominating every round in the process, and got the KO when the time was right.

Great showing by Kovalev. A fight like that proves a lot more than if he just went out and got a 1st round KO.

On a related note, does anyone know when Kovalev trained with JDJ? I want to watch his fights before JDJ trained him, and compare them to his most recent fights.

Can't say for sure but I would assume that jdj started training him sometime after he started fighting in the us, maybe the fight prior to campillo?

A very violent game of Whack a Mole. It's hard to look sensational against a guy shelling up and survive after the 1st and frankly its unrealistic when no ones ever heard of you outside of your home town. Kovalev dominated the fight, and kept it violent. Can't ask for too much more other than a massive fight next and he's done everything but camp on Stevensons patio to get it.

Very impressed with Kovalevs punch selection and keeping it varied. Stabs to the body and started to come around his turtle shell with effect.

I agree, and would just add that Kovalev did what he needed to do. He stopped a guy that he should stop. Certainly, he did it in the violent way that we are accustomed from him, so, if anything, he perpetuates the violent maniac mystique.

Also, I expect Stevenson to do the exact same with Fonfara. I saw Campillo outbox Fonfara for a time in that fight and Stevenson is at a better point in his career than Campillo was when he faced Fonfara. Neither win is extraordinary but they are good wins over solid guys.

It's sad how things have unfolded for Campillo. I was very impressed with him against Cloud and then he went the way of Joachim Alcine; he can no longer take a punch.

Do you think Kovalev cracked his chin?

He may have. But, I see Campillo as having slowed down and lost his desire to train properly n be a champion.

Plus the cat is out of the bag that he has a glass jaw and to jump on him early.
