Thread: Should Boxing have an International Council?

... a Council governed by a top-sports authority or a group of countries sports Ministry's and/or authorities?

Sorta like the Olympics and Track and Field- and to some extent Baseball, Cricket and Soccer (FIFA)?

It could be a time for those discussions to take place at the highest level... to the fixed fights, dodgy organizations, dodgy promoters and officials, to shady deals in backwater towns and places like Mexico and Puerto Rico, maybe it's time like US Senator John McCain has been suggesting for the last 20 plus years- that and health insurance for fighters.

An international sports body that supersedes the other sanctioning bodies. Yea, they can still pull off shows, but when stuff happens, there is an appellate process that's Global bound and can act as a final authority on the matter.

For example: If your stadium, fit-outs, venue and/or technology team isn't in place or isn't fit to host major sports events, like a World Cup match and/or qualifier, or not Olympic ready, then there is NO WAY you are going to host a major event like Championship level Soccer or Track and Field.

Its needed one governing body for how many years?

Truth is if you establish one powerful governing body then they will be corrupted. People act in their best interests. It would end up like FIFA or the Olympics with rich men bribing rich men. All that would change is who is being bribed and how much they are being bribed.

Fans don't want to admit that they are the problem. With no formal organization the market dictates everything. If a small time fighter becomes popular he becomes a big time fighter because the market dictates such. As much as we bitch and moan about the ills of boxing, we couldn't have it better from a control standpoint. We can't tell Man U, the Yankees or the Steelers who to play the formal organizations decide that. But as boxing fans we could determine everything if we ever cared to make the effort.

I was going to respond in a deeper fashion, but let's start the retort to Swanson right about here.

Plus, I would hasten to add, smaller, elite groups- like boxing org's- have a competitive advantage over the masses. Just like political parties and pressure/lobby groups.

There is great advantage in concentrated efforts of the elite few... it's nature.

Who has been waiting? I seem to recall Floyd setting a new record for PPV gross in his last fight. As long as Pac sells and Floyd sells the fans have determined they don't fight. The more they pick sides "Floyds scared" "Pac backed out" the farther we are from Floyd/Pac. The market dictates. Answer this honestly, if Arum couldn't meet Pacs huge purses do you think he would just take loss after loss or do you think he would make a bigger fight? Same question with Floyd and Showtime? Remember the argument Floyd was "forced" to fight Canelo because the Guerrero fight sold poorly? Put a couple poor sales in a row together and what happens? The market dictates
