While they could have saved some of the drama...the fact that the commission did not like or approve the first pair...shows Mayweather had a valid point and this was not "orchestrated." I agree...Chino shouldn't have to wear Grants...but if his team was trying to get by with some gloves that even the boxing commission thought where no good....that is shady. Anyways...seems to be resolved. Lets hope for an exciting fight.

IDK man. Floyd wears pillows. If he's forced to wear Floyds style that nearly kills any intrigue the fight has. The first pair was bunk but Maidana should be allowed to wear a different pair of Everlast. If Floyd didn't like that he should have put it in the contract. At least then Marcos could have prepared for what he would be working with. I'll join the critics if Marcos is really forced to wear Floyds style of Grants. But I highly doubt it comes to that.
Good points. As you say his only chance is a left field shot most likely and Grants would definitely squash those hopes.

I'm surprised they didn't plant Panama Lewis in the crowd. Ellerbe yacking that they don’t care about the brand but care about pad and sewing direction. So in other words you care about the brand? Maidana should come to the ring wearing Reyes. Everlast are no more a punchers glove really then Grants are. And Floyd saying "just wear the shit we brought" or something like that is unbelievable after that show. Oh yeah I forgot it was all just a head game right?

Floyd sounded like a baby but he had a point. Those gloves were custom made in Mexico. Most likely in a Cleto Reyes factory where they changed nothing but the cover and lettering. They make Levi 501's in Mexico also. Complete with red tag and Strauss markings. They are not Levi's. I think Maidana orchestrated this not Mayweather. I think Floyd got played. And again Maidana should now go for Reyes and flat out refuse to wear Grants.
What does made in Mexico have to do with anything if they are accepted by the commission. What is the country of actual mfg origin of all Everlast and Grant Gloves. Boxing is a global not just a USA sport.

I really loved your recommendation to just use Reyes gloves
The commission official rejected them and normally I would not care where they are made but in this case it would appear they were part of a publicity stunt and like I said you can buy almost any name product from Mexico whether licensed or not and it makes a big difference where something is made. Next time you are in Mexico buy a pair of button front Levi's or a polo shirt and tell me the difference. In addition if they are now using everlasts that were not custom made for Maidana and its all cool now suggests that in fact something was wrong with those custom gloves and where and how they were made.

It shouldn't matter what kind of gloves Maidana wears outside of a prop. I dont care who Floyd is. The rules on gloves were well in place before he ever came along. Maidana should be able to wear Reyes or Rival. That is unless Maidana gave him the power to decide in the contract like Hagler did against Leonard? I never saw the contract.

the CEO of Everlast said the only difference between the gloves Maidana wanted to wear and the ones hes wearing is that he had his Customized to be the same color as the Argentinian flag and the regular ones are just red. they were Custom Blue Everlast MX and the ones hes wearing are Stock Everlast MX. Only difference is the color.

Sounds a little suspect. I mean what else would he say? "Someone at a factory took a bribe and left the Reyes pattern for pad design and stitch direction on the machine in order to mess with Mayweathers head"

The colour of the gloves? The gloves looked suspect and the entire team rejected them looking rather genuine while doing so. They all put them on. If the stock gloves are the same but a different colour then they to would have been rejected.

    Here is a picture:

They look fine in that photo albeit displayed differently then Floyds.

In preparation for his fight against Arturo Gatti, 2005... Roger Mayweather said: ""It ain't the tools; it's the carpenter..." when asked about the differences in fight gloves, as quoted in a NY Times article. See here: http://www.nytimes.com/2005/06/24/sp...oves.html?_r=0

The article also states that "Rules mandate that a glove weigh no more than eight ounces for matches under 154 pounds and 10 ounces for all other matches above that limit." ... just an FYI.

I guess we will never see Floyd go to MW now. lololol....

Which just goes to show how misdirected pre-fight hype can be. Maidana brought the fight to Floyd, actually made it exciting. The hyped Floyd-Canelo "showdown" is now being sold as an over-the-counter cure for insomnia.

Canelo was very disappointing but I think Floyd took more chances against Chino because it was at his weight.

Good point. But weight notwithstanding, Chino is a renowned big puncher. The threat of damage to Floyd was still there. The difference is, like Cotto, Chino pressed into Mayweather... making him go into the offensive to fend him off. He didn't just stand and plod through the middle of the ring while Floyd boxed circles around him (ala Canelo).

Chino hit harder at light welter, he has not carried that punch power up in weight and I bet Canelo hits harder. Floyd wanted to impress because he had to against Chino, he just had to win against Canelo.

Canelo is the bigger, stronger man. So on punching power alone, I wouldn't argue against you. Floyd knew the size difference, and he's a smart fighter. But bottom line: Chino's stock rose after the loss to Floyd, as did Cotto's. Canelo's stock dropped. People (Canelo fans, particularly) expected more, and were bitterly disappointed. It comes from hyping a fight beyond its merits.
