A personal favourite there; Czyz was getting a lot of hype, and Williams was meant to be blown away. And he nearly was...

But as well as being a really good fight, it was at a time, where you could stick on ITV in the middle of the night and without no previous advertising you had the whole bill live in the middle of week. It had the historic (first man to win four claims of a world title at different weights) Hearns/Roldan fight as the nominal main event, which was also a fun scrap.

That may be true as he did like to party. Tyson loved him for that.

Personally I don't think honeyghan was ever the same after the curry fight . For me he changed his way of fighting he became much more aggressive

The Espana/Taylor fight was a tough one for Meldrick. He'd have been better off had he told both Duva and Benton to go away and leave him alone after about the 3rd round. One guy telling him to box, the other telling him to get close and he had no clue how to get close beyond just walking forward.

Espana was a decent fighter and Taylor was finished as a top fighter. It was a sad beating. Espana had a longer wing span than his own height. He married an Irish lass and settled into family life after losing to Quartey.

    Fight of the day

1980: Jim Watt vs Sean O’Grady. I never really bought that O'grady got death threats while in Scotland along with his family although the name is most likely 5th or 6th century Irish.
Maybe it was the catholic origins but I have a hard time believing these threats were serious.
I guess it only bugged him and effected his performance when the end came cause he had a nice lead.

1886: George Dixon KO 3 Young Johnson, Halifax, N.S. Dixon’s pro debut.

1907: Frank Mantell KO 15 Honey Melody, Dayton, OH. Wins World Welterweight Title.

1922: Mickey Walker W 15 Jack Britton, NYC. Wins World Middleweight Title.

1986: Khaosai Galaxy KO 5 Israel Contreras, Willemstad, Curacao. Retains WBA Super Flyweight Title.

1996: Danny Romero KO 12 Hipolito Saucedo, Indio, CA. Retains IBF Super Flyweight Title.

2002: Oscar Larios KO 1 Willie Jorrin, Sacramento, CA. Wins WBC Super Bantamweight Title.

2003: Floyd Mayweather KO 7 Phillip Ndou, Grand Rapids, MI. Retains World Lightweight Title.
-Juan Manuel Marquez Tech. Win 7 Derrick Gainer, Grand Rapids, MI. Unifies IBF & WBA Featherweight Title.

2008: Felix Sturm W 12 Sebastian Sylvester, Oberhausen, Nordrhein-Westfalen, Germany. Retains WBA Middleweight Title.
-Vic Darchinyan KO 9 Cristian Mijares, Carson, CA. Unifies WBC, WBA, & IBF World Super Flyweight Titles.I would have bet the house that Mijares would school Vic
