Prince Amir Shafipour, who is known to be a combat sports enthuasiast, has been given the green light by the rulers of United Arab Emirates to negotiate for holding the mega bout between Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather in Dubai next year.
Shafipour, a popular fight promoter and known businessman in the UAE, has established various boxing and mixed martial arts tournaments in the Middle East, including the Golden Cage events and Global Fighting Championships (GFC) Series.
The President and Royal Family of United Arab Emirates (UAE) Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan have ordered Shafipour to open talks with the Pacquiao and Mayweather camps. The promoter and the royal family of UAE have a great connection for the past few years.
Based on the report of International Business Times, the GFC series has been held in different places like in Dubai, Turkey, Morocco and Holand while the final matches will take place in Australia, where the fighters have a chance to pocket $1 million dollars.
Shafipour is also known to his vast connections to the United States, Asia, Australia and Europe, which allows his country to host other mega sporting events.
But Shafipour is really wanted to host the biggest boxing fight in the whole world that everyone wanted to see – Pacquiao-Mayweather bout – and promote his country.
“We already have the best horse race, golf and tennis events taking place, what we now need [is] a fight event that will blow everyone away and that event is Pacquiao vs. Mayweather – and we are going to make it happen,” Shafipour told Gulf News (gulfnews.com) recently.
He also said that he already brought the best fighters in K-1 in Dubai and they received a lot of money.
“My ultimate vision is to put on a show that has never been seen before in Dubai, which will capture the attention of every fight fan on the planet and provide Dubai with the kind of world advertising that it deserves as a mega city,” Shafipour added to gulfnews.com.
