Thread: Gene Tunney Fights

From most of what i have read Tunney won ever fight but the first and beat Greb so bad that he said he never wanted to fight Tunney ever again. Gene Tunney i do not think was even prime when fought him the first time he kept getting better though to point that he did not want to fight Tunney.

The second fight was considered to be a very bad decision at the time. Also, as Tunney got better, he grew, adding 15 pounds. The interesting thing is that Greb said Tunney was too big and too good to fight again, and at the same time was trying to get a fight with Dempsey, which he had been trying to do for years.

Dempsey may have been easier at that time as he was older and more civilised as well as being a former sparring partner Greb may have thought he knew his weakness. Also probably would have earned more money to fight Dempsey than Tunney.

Tunney was a master boxer, and a joy to watch and he would not be out of place in
a boxing ring today.

All i know is Demsey never fought black fighters so how goo he was i really don't know. I know Tunney beat him 19 out 20 rounds they fought and that Tunney near the end beat Greb so bad never wanted fight him again. Tunney was a fighter who was just to ahead of his time in boxing ability.
