Golovkin's Trainer: Cotto Should Face 160-Pounder or Drop - Boxing News

After @JazzWolf revealed that Box Rec has Cotto facing Chavez Jr in December on the http://www.saddoboxing.com/boxingfor...vkin-face.html
thread, do you think Cotto should be allowed to dodge Golovkin and fight a guy who has not fought at 160 for years for the right to wear the lineal middleweight belt ?

Its a strange one for me. Youd have to expect Chavez will be far too big and strong for Cotto. I was convinced it would be Alvarez v Cotto for the MW title next so Im just happy that that hasnt happened.

I somewhat agree if Cotto is attempting to face Bradley at a catch-weight fight at 155 or making Junior face him at 160. If Cotto wants to take another fight at 160 to grow into the weight and then face GGG next year. Fair enough.

    Talk about hypocrisy.

    Was Rosado a legit MW??

    Nope

    Was Ishiida a legit MW

    Nope

    Was Ouma's washed-up ass a legit MW??

    Nope

Cotto just got to MW and doesn't even need GG.
He can fight Canelito get paid large...and leave golovkin to fight the dreaded Sam Soliman for peanuts.

GG has been a pro for EIGHT years...

where was he when Pavlik was champ?
    Or Abraham...ect ect ect.
You mean to tell me EVERYBODY for the past EIGHT years has been avoiding this guy??

    C'mon now nutthugger.Ward isn't avoiding him..thats for damn sure.

Andre is the reason GG's people stopped talking that we'll fight anybody shit.

He's willing to fight smaller guys...but the bigger ones....not so much.

Wards not in his weight class. Its the same reason Floyds ducked Ward.

Boxrec is always fast out of the gate. I agree with 3g but he cannot act as if a middleweight champion being challenged by a smaller man is unprecedented. After all, Cotto himself is no middleweight. As a Cotto fan I wish he would have retired after Martinez and I certainly don't want him to hold the title hostage but he cant even if he wanted to. Its the WBC lets not forget.

Cotto must have an optional because he is considering opponents. Now who knows who that might be. I'm hoping he fights David Lemieux (for selfish reasons) or another top 5 guy but I suspect at this stage in his career he wont. He's going to cash out and who can blame him. They are not going to fight this Krazy Kazak. I have a feeling he will work with Bob and then Oscar. He could fight Bradley and I must say that the possible sound of hearing "and the new lineal and Wbc champion Tim Bradley" makes my blood curdle. Or he could go with the Alvarez fight with the optional since Alvarez is going to 160 anyway.
Because unless Rubio was willing to take step aside money he would be in the mandatory position after Cotto's optional. So Cotto could fight his optional and then Alvarez could pay off Rubio and they could do it in May.

Guys just need to pick a division and defend what they claim, legitamitly. Its exhausting following all of the catchweight charades. Cotto coming off beating 'the man' just has to be expected to aim higher than Tim Bradley for crying out loud! Haven't heard mention of Chavez v Cotto but again Cotto will be outweighed easily by 20+ lbs and 1 box of Cookie Crisps at the opening bell in a agreed go at 160. But Arum is salivating at the stand by Mexico- Puerto Rico rivalry.

Cotto can do what he likes, he beat the man so he is entitled to a voluntary defence and Junior is decent enough.

I've no issues with a Cotto/Chavez fight, but the winner should fight Golovkin.

Cotto is nuts if he fights Chavez Jr.

    That's a short 154 lber vs a huge 168 lber.

He'd have virtually no chance of winning. It would be like Margarito vs. Cotto all over again minus the plaster wraps.

Yeah it's amazing how quickly perspectives are lost in boxing. Talk about a weight difference at fight time. Junior could easily outweigh Cotto by 30-35 pounds by fight time. Junior has the height and frame to fight at light heavy, whereas Cotto is pushing his body's boundaries fighting at 160.

GGG is now the biggest name in boxing, if Cotto, Alvarez, Quillin or anybody else wants a massive payday and capture the hearts and minds of every boxing fan on the planet then stop fucking around and get in the ring with GGG. The Middleweight division has lacked a real super champion with charisma since the days of Hagler, nobody mention Hopkins please, he was a very good ordinary fighter, but awkward to watch. It was uncomfortable watching Hopkins. Not so GGG, this guy is a monster, he talks like Borat and punches like Tyson....high five!

I feel like every fight Cotto in is a catch weight or at a weight his opponents is not used to.

Can someone write me a list of his last 5 and the weights please?

    Can't find shit online.

I ask because I don't pay Cotto any real attention, he annoys me.
    You say tomato,
    ‘n I say …… it correctly.
