Re: Geeez.... enough Tiger already!!!
i think that the way Woods burst on the scene and proceeded to utterly dominate the game was awesome. It was like when Roger Federer first came through. He changed the way that golf was played, and also forever changed the way golf courses were actually designed. The image of the game, TV figures and endorsements went stratospheric. He was also a complete player who 'went mainstream' and transcended the sport.
The impact he made was like Pele, Michael Jordan, Usain Bolt and Muhammad Ali. The fact he was a 'black' guy in a pretty racist sport made it an even bigger story ..... Though of course, he isn't 'black', he's mixed race (like Barack Obama, who everyone also just calls black)
Unfortunately, while he played golf like a god, he was a human being like the rest of us and he fell badly into temptation and got publicly burnt for that. Lots of famous athletes and movie stars have done worse, but got nowhere near the excoriation. Good word, eh?. I don't doubt that the media made a bigger deal about it because he was shagging blond white women
He is on the slide now, like all golfers do at his age. Undoubtedly, he is arrogant and possibly driven and unpleasant .... Most great athletes need to be.
Look at Pele when he was on the slide, all the media covered him much more than his remaining skills and game contribution deserved. Same with the sad end to Tysons career.
You shouldn't be surprised at the coverage of him, it's about viewers and box office, nothing to do with how good he is at golf these days.
Couldn't see too much racism in the first post, I have to say?

If God wanted us to be vegetarians, why are animals made of meat ?
