Default Muhammad Ali vs. Buster Mathis ~ "Jelly Roll Embarrassment"

    Was this an embarrassment.

    November 17, 1971

A pathetic display from a supposed World Class Boxer.

Muhammad Ali in his 2nd Comeback bout after getting his 'ass skidded' by Lil' Joe Frazier which was 8-Months earlier.

Muhammad {Age; 29 years, 10 months} was said to be in his 'Prime' and ready to challenge 'Smokin Joe' again.

    Muhammad Ali
    "I'm using Buster as a tune-up. I want Joe for my 30th Birthday {January 17, 1972}. That would be a wonderful
Birthday Present, Joe Frazier wrapped up in a big bow and on the canvas."

"I got rid of Jimmy Ellis for Joe {July 25, 1971}. Now he has nowhere to go, except Europe with that pathetic Musical Revue.
Joe can't sing or dance. And I hear that only 50 people show up to his shows. He can't draw flies, and they even give tickets
away for free. I can draw more people on a street corner at Midnight."

    Wednesday Night ~ November 17, 1971

    Astrodome ~ Houston, Texas

    Muhammad Ali
    Age........... 29 years, 10 months
    Weight ..... 227 lbs.
    Height....... 6' 3"
    Reach....... 78"
    Record...... 32-1-0 {26 KO's}
    WBA Rank.. #1

Muhammad was listed as a {7-1} Betting Favorite, and was to receive a 'minimum' fight purse of $300,000 against 40% of the Gate Receipts.

ABC-TV purchased the rights to film the bout, which was to be telecast at a later date.

Muhammad was 'blasting away' that Joe Frazier ran to Europe to avoid fighting him.

"Joe Frazier has no one to fight. I knocked off Jimmy Ellis, and George Foreman is still an amateur
who is 1-year away. Floyd Patterson is too old, and Joe doesn't want to fight Oscar Bonavena
    again."

Spices are invaluable ingredients in enhancing the flavours of a dish. Their are many flavours here already and the menu is varied and complex. You are adding nothing but a very bitter aftertaste with your clumsy seasoning.

    Buster Mathis

"You know, when Muhammad Ali returned to boxing after 3+ years, the Press made a big deal about it."

"For me, I was out of boxing for 2 1/2 years, had an obesity problem and diabetes. When I came back, the Press said nothing about my return."

"The Press are Scum Bags, and full off Ali Brown-Nosers."

On what planet is this of any interest to anyone besides you? Ali was news, the undefeated HW champion who was banned from the ring for refusing to serve in the war. Because the press were less interested in a guy who had lost his big fights and decided to get fat and stop fighting for a while, this suggests there was as bias to you? Mathis was shut out by Ali and knocked down 4 times in the last two rounds anyways. What exactly was embarrassing about the fight? You're a joke Bill.

Have you ever tried to watch that fight ?

It was an embarrassment. So much so, that Howard Cosell had to apologize to the viewers when
it was aired on ABC Television.

    The 'event' was pathetic.
