I think that is true. In that first fight he took all Tommy could throw, and he hit Hearns really hard to the body before the ko right hand.
Not nearly the one sided fight it is said to be. barkley was cut, but it was a close fight.

I always used to say to myself or out loud to friends during his ring walks something like, "now there is a real badass"
Nothing fake about it.
Barkley had some great quotes back in his day. Before he fought on the triple header with Roy n Toney on HBO they were asking about his surgically paired eye. Barkely told the guy not worry about it, he seems him very good. He said ask that guy how is Jaw is, cause I'm gonna hit him on it.
He also had one where some uppity press guy asked him what he was going to do after boximg and Iran told him he was going to rob his house. Not funny writing it, but his delivery with that heavy street New York accent was perfect.
Tough dude for sure. HUGE middleweight. I have to say though that Toneys fight vs Barkley was a masterpiece. Another forgotten fact is that after that triple header Hopkins n Butch Lewis showed up n called out both Toney n Barkely which quickly escalated to a mini riot. The good old days...
All In all I'm glad he was tougher than this stroke and wish him good health long life and comfort.
28 year old Iran The Blade Barkley.
You gotta love this guy and feel for him that he is right back where he started: "The streets of the South Bronx, New York".
Hope he makes a full recovery. For all of the tough guy and rawness, he comes off like decent, flat out no bs spoken guy. More so hope he has someone with backing to help during recovery and therapy. Love that Van Horn fight and story about how he was literally sitting in promoters office scratching for ANY opportunity, believed used up and half blind with weight bouncing around and just being hurt by the like of Casteneda in a shoot out. They brought him in as cannon fodder, someone forgot to tell The Blade.
He was genuinely scary and if I was facing him I would run out of the ring If I saw him entering it. Toney handled him and he was not scared of him. Barkley had a bomb left hook and a top middleweight contender.
Do not let success go to your head and do not let failure get to your heart.
Iran was as tough as they come and his KO of Hearns is legendary.
Hopefully he makes a full and speedy recovery.
Hard as a coffin nail, wish the Blade all the best in his recovery.
