    A tragic tale.

My heart goes out Gerald, and to all fighters left permanently damaged by boxing.

A chilling reminder of how perilous this great sport, which we all love so much, can be.

Can't believe he's been living in that state now for 20 years, what a hell that must be for him and his sisters who have to care for him 24/7.

I think prime G-Man was in the top 10 punchers of all time. The power he had in both hands was ridiculous and he dug to the body with a left hook like very few could.

That article came up on my Facebook page. I never bother reading the comments because most posters are mindless fuckwits that know absolutely nothing about boxing.

I was at this fight, and - to my shame - I was booing McClennan at the end because I thought he had tanked it. Still feel ashamed about that.

You know I have just never been able to feel sorry for him. Any scum bag POS that tapes Labrador retrievers mouths shut to let his line bred retard pit bulls have at it gets no pity from me.

Absolutely NO WAY you could have know what was going on in that ring after the fight that night, was like a gladiator pit and Chaos afterwards.

And even watching on TV i remember my Brother screaming "He's bottled it" when McClellan dropped to his knee.

Most people were so absorbed in the battle they didn't notice the blinking, gum shield out etc.

They say they do now but they didn't if they're honest.

All anyone gave a fuck about was Nigel beating the fuck out of him

Just a disgusting thing to do.
I wouldn't have wished his injuries on him but there are many other people that I'll give sympathy to before him.

Yeah I hear that for sure. I loved him as a boxer but as a man he seemed a real piece of shit. If the dog fighting stories are true, I'm glad it happened to him to be honest.

It took me years to watch the fight. To this day I think the ref should've been kicked the Fuck outta the reffing game- way too may rabbit punches.
Way too much time allowing Benn back in the ring first round
And Ferdie Pacheco saying he just flat out quit...man just a horrible fight to relive.

Gman fought Benn because he was chasing RJJ. Benn then calls out RJJ after the fight. The end.

Bullfighting and matadors deserve far worse.

Boxers know the major risk that they might face during any bout but no boxer deserves this.

Just think of the amount of meat that passes through our digestive system without a thought of the horrendous torture the animals go through but no one bats an eyelid.

We are not talking about bull fighters but I have no pity for them either. Its a fitting end for a scumbag in either case and I'm a vegetarian.

Tragic night all around and frankly Benn paid a price also. I can't wish permanent damage on a man and family though as its a possibility with every blow in a sport I fiend for, nevermind the shit things he perpetrates. More about Benn 'winning' for me and I've had people call me a sadist for that. No, just a fan.

Benn getting up from the round 1 knockdown and fighting on to win is probably the most remarkable comeback in boxing history. Benn was knocked out cold, and McClellan landed a couple of flush punches while he was out cold and sent him through the ropes, the fact that he woke up, actually got back into the ring and fought on though more punishment and knockdowns to win is just incredible.

tragedy aside it was a fantastic fight, i cant think of many better, if any

i read a bit of that article and it mentions the head butt, ive also watched a documentory on it which points at that head butt as a reason for what happened

personally i think that is ridiculous

benn hit mcclellan with lots of big looping right hands, and nigel benn could punch

its a real shame that such an amazing fight is remembered the way it is and i cant imagine the nightmare the mcclellans have suffered since

It was an amazing fight and Benn turned it around from an awful 1st round.

20 years! Think Cantana kicked a fan too at that time.
