Lads, it's been a few years coming. But I think I've reached the end of the affair.
I think after this weekend I'm a former boxing nut.

Sounds like you cared more about the personalities than the sport. And when you see how many of your favorites were cheats it's no surprise your fandom waned. Some other guy will come along and drag you back in.
Hard for me to understand. I can understand being wrapped up in life and letting boxing slip farther and farther down the list of priorities, but turning my back on boxing and walking away!?
Boxing can be frustrating at times, with the wrong fighters winning (lol), assholes prospering, obvious corruption, blatant and unapologetic greed, and at times a disregard for fighters safety.
Boxing is brutal and not for everyone, and I've never criticized anyone for finding it distasteful. When he said something about the brutality of boxing, perhaps starting to get to him, I can understand that. There have been more than a few times when I've wanted to use a baseball bat on a referee for letting a fight continue.
Boxing has plenty of problems, but I just can't see myself walking away from it. It would be like walking away from a life long friend that you know isn't perfect, but who or what is?
This article mentions Floyd's fights as being boring and one-sided. I can understand how one can say they are one-sided, but boring?
I consider myself very much a fan of the sport of boxing, and I love watching Mayweather's defensive style. To me he is a real life manifestation on the textbook of defensive boxing and it's rare to see someone perform the craft at such a high level in modern times.
It makes me wonder, are you truly a "boxing" fan or do you just want to watch 2 guys beat the piss out of each other?
I was obsessive fan when Tyson was fighting recorded everything, had a scrap book and bought all the boxing magazines. As years have gone I am less and less involved but still follow the game as much as I can.
Boxing will always remain my number 1 sport and when Floyd leaves, I believe the world will be a better place anyway.
Do not let success go to your head and do not let failure get to your heart.
Boxing is the one and only multi personality obnoxious stalker girl I'll never leave Beat me, scar me, cheat me as she may...in it for the long run.
Yes, there is some merit to the point that I always did enjoy seeing men 'beat the piss out of each other' rather than a tactical boxing match - no arguments there.
Which boxing fan would rather watch Mayweather-Alvarez than Corrales-Castillo, or Hagler-Hearns?
Give me a flawed fighter like Tommy Hearns any day of the week over Mayweather and the Klitschkos, whose dominance is astounding.
When Manny was P4P, he was electrifying every fight. The only time I felt truly electrified by Floyd was maybe Manfredy, Corrales and Gatti?

Officially the only saddo who has had a girlfriend
No, I wouldn't break up with boxing. It is my favourite sport and for me boxing is the perfect metaphor for life and its ups and downs. I use boxing as an analogy for so many things. The ups and the downs and the trials and the tribulations. Boxing is a tough sport and life is tough. Someone said to me a few weeks ago "I don't like boxing because boxing is cruel". I gave that considerable thought and concluded that that person was right. Life should be fairer and nicer and better, but sometimes the underdog can win and in a cruel sport that is glorious and it gives you hope. Boxing is a cruel, but beautiful sport that changes lives and inspires many more. Sure, the promoters, the judges etc can spoil it, but the beauty of the art itself is transcendental. The power of a great fight is almost Shakespearian in its scope.
Some nice thoughts there Gandalf.
