    Default Metal music

this has likely been done before but ill do it anyway

Don't say Metallica because they are popular, I'm relatively new to actually buying this stuff but ads kid my bombarded our road with maiden etc.

If you had to compile a list what would it be, I mean quality too not just crazy noise the groups are:

Slayer, iron maiden, megadeth, forbidden, sodom, heathen, Metallica, over kill and testament

What would you have as your top 5?

Would you rate the groups I mentioned?

    I'll go...

    1. Pantera
    2. Megadeth
    3. Metallica
    4. Iron Maiden
    5. Slayer

Those are the bigs ones I find myself going back to all the time.

I never got into death metal, black metal, grind core, etc.

I liked some power metal when I was younger but the lyrics about dragons and medieval times eventually turned me off.

I was really big into nu-metal when I was a teenager and it was big. Korn, Limp Bizkit, Disturbed, System of a Down, Slipknot, Static X, ect ect. I'll go back and listen to that kind of stuff on the rare occasion.

I like Black Sabbath but not huge into them. Was never a big Ozzy fan either outside of the classics.

Would you class them as thrash? I'm going to checkout some of the stuff you mentioned!

Don't mean to spoil your thread but I never thought metal had soul. The eighties, when metal took over kind of scared the shit out of me. I thought music was over. I was considering suicide. Fortunately a few good bands held the course like the Police and brought me back from the edge of death.

Rob Halford of Judas Priest had two side projects- Fight and Halford- and both are very good. The live CD under the Halford name mixes the best of both.

Check out Made in Hell by Halford. Very heavy tune.
Sacred Reich is very good as well.

Anyone see that documentary on the metal band Anvil a few years back? Really good stuff, very Spinal Tap-ish.

The dude had some set of pipes on him. And he was tiny too. Like a portable midget foghorn.
