Boxing Warrior ? The guy is a prima donna. First he picks a fight with a disabled pensioner with dodgier knees than Mary Millington, and then he asks Geale to chop one of his limbs off, before he is willing to give him a shot at the middleweight title. He admits openly that he has no interest in ever respecting the rules of boxing, and then after virtually filling his shorts at the mention of Golovkin, he makes it quite clear that his next fight as middle weight champ, will again not be against a middle weight, because he has no interest in fighting anyone at middle weight.

    What a warrior.
In case you didn't realise he fought many times before he was a MW , and earned his tag as a warrior.
You're right. And that's why it's such a shame that he is undoing all the good work he did in the rest of his career. If he wants to come in light , fine, but a world title fight should allow a fighter to come in any weight up to the limit.
It's another example of money being more of a priority than the reputation and integrity of the sport.

Cotto beat Martinez for the middle weight title

Telling a guy to weigh 157 to fight for the title is probably wrong. But Geale didn't have to agree to it and he could have handled his weight differently once he did. If I was managing Cotto, I would honor the 160 limit but every contract would enforce a rehydration limit of 165.
A guy weighing 160 for one minute the day before the fight and the getting in the ring at 172 or more is the real insult to the sport.
The rehydration as a whole is off the chart today with guys putting on anywhere from 10 to 21 lbs in many cases. But Geale had no obligation to be reweighed...and Cotto would not even get back on the scale so his at the bell weight was not known. Cotto double dipped, taking the limit off the top..no 160..and he didn't even come in at minimum 154 himself. To me, he lost the legitimacy of lineal middle as he will even defend there. I do believe Robinson was above minimum for 1st middle strap with Lamotta and had no stipulations, he was outweighed in all of there fights up to the point of 15 lbs once if I'm not mistaken? The thing with Robinson was he knew and acted like he was indeed that much better in that series. No shenanigans or gimmicks..lets just have a fight!

Cotto beat the man, it was only after that people realized he was not the same fighter. Give Cotto some credit.

Martinez' injuries and surgeries were well known after the Murray fight even as far back as the Chavez Jr fight. Here's an article:
Injuries will likely keep Sergio Martinez from fighting for rest of 2013
This was explored in detail during the Cotto v Martinez 24/7 episodes before the fight.
Roach and Cotto even tried to prevent Martinez from being able to wear a soft supportive knee brace into the ring for the fight. They CLEARLY knew they were fighting damaged goods as did anyone paying attention to the lead up to the fight.
So don't give me the "he beat THE MAN" crap. He beat A man with one leg...

I love that everyone predicted Cotto would murder Martinez in that way, and had absolutely no interest in the fight before watching.

I called it a Cotto KO for the prediction contest.

It should have come as no surprise...but boxing fans can be a bit thick when it comes to logic, reasoning and critical thinking.

Why did Martinez take the fight, then?

After Trout, most people on here thought Cotto was done, and didn't feel that a win over Delvin Rodriguez would offer anything to beat Martinez.

Yeah that's what I said in my previous post. Boxing fans are dumb.

I read your post that to mean you deny that Martinez had injuries and surgeries and that you dispute that it was common knowledge that he was in less than perfect condition for the year or two leading up to the Cotto fight...

He took the fight for money because he made peanuts in the sport and needed a payday or two before leaving. Let's not confuse that with him still being "THE MAN".

My biggest concern for cotto is when he gets beaten up he really gets beaten up.

Cotto is still very popular even after all these losses he has shown a great boxing iq and his bodywork combinations are impressive.

He will never beat floyd but a rematch against pac at cottos weight would be interesting but with freddie managing the two it will never happen.
