Hey Bill, welcome back. How was your exile. You have a lot of knowledge for us younger guys. Just forget about that particular fighter who's name begins with an A. Use caution as I've seen some get a temp ban only to come back and get a permo ban but enough with the lecture, welcome back. If you need to get something off your chest use the other boards.

    Luigi Musina

    Hometown > Gorizia, Ialy

A superbly conditioned boxer-puncher, who had a good set of {Canoli's} biceps.

A 6' 0" Light-Heavyweight, who occasionally jumped up to Heavyweight.

    By November 21, 1945 >
    The 5 1/2 year Professional {Age; 30 years, 11 months} had compiled a fine record of
    28-5-4 with {14 KO's}.

Luigi was a 'rock', as he had never been dropped or stopped in his 37-Bout career.

Included was winning the Italian Light-Heavyweight Championship on June 27, 1941 > a title
he still held after 4 1/2 years.

Also, Luigi had won the European Light-Heavyweight Championship {April 5, 1942}, but he
vacated the Title in February 1943 to enter into an Eliminator for the European Heavyweight
    Championship.

Now was the 'big one', a bout with former Heavyweight Champion and 'come-backing'
    Primo Carnera.

    The Big Fight

    Wednesday ~ November 21, 1945

    Luigi Musina ~ 28-5-4 {14 KO's} ~ 6' 0" ~ 184 lbs. ~ {Age; 30 years, 11 months}
    vs.
    Primo Carnera ~ 88-11-0 {71 KO's} ~ 6' 6" ~ 266 lbs. ~ {Age; 39 years, 1 month}
    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Primo Carnera was coming back after retiring from Professional Boxing on November 18, 1937.

After 7 1/2 years in the {Military} Italian Army and then the Professional Wrestling ranks, Primo
had decided on a comeback in July 1945, and the former Heavyweight Champion had won '2-Straight'.
    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    'The Italian Skinny'

    Luigi Musina >
"I am no pushover for Primo. He made a huge mistake in signing to fight me. I can box circles around
him. He's too old and too slow now. I don't care what kind of shape that he's in, there is in no way in
Hell that he can beat me."

"I'll end Primo's comeback. I'll beat him up, and then put him away late."

    Primo Carnera >
"I may be old, but I still can fight. I'm stronger than ever, and now I'm a much smarter fighter. I'm smart,
like an old Italian Bear looking for honey."

"I don't see much of a problem with Luigi. I'll take a few Rounds to wear him down, and then unload
'Da Preem' in Round 5. I'll end it with a left-right to the chin."

~ Primo Carnera Loses In Comeback Bid ~

~ Luigi Musina Flattens Carnera In Seventh ~

Luigi Musina completely out-classed former Heavyweight Champion - Primo Carnera
and stopped the lumbering 39 year-old in Round 7.

Musina, out-weighed by 80 lbs. drove the former Champion to the canvas 'twice' in the
opening Round, by slamming hard right-hands into Carnera's chin.

Musina then proceeded to box the lumbering Giant's ears off in every Round, and had Carnera
    'wobbling' after every solid punch.

In Round 7, Musina drove Carnera backwards with a series of hard-punches, that had the
come-backing fighter in deep trouble while backed up along the Ropes.

The former Champion tried to fight his way out of danger, and moved away from the Ropes.

But Musina caught Carnera with a 'jolting' left-hook, sending the 'Ambling Alp' stumbling backwards
and into the Ropes, where he went down to avoid getting hit.

Carnera got up at the '6-Count', but the Referee called a halt to the bout as Carnera wanted to quit
and made no effort to continue.

    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    Promoter > Aldo Viasco
"Primo Carnera is no longer a good fighter. He is totally inept, and has a 'glass jaw'. He was wobbled by
every punch he took. He is not even a good draw anymore. We were expecting 12,000 spectators tonight,
    and only drew 7000."

"We lost {$7000 in U.S. Dollars} tonight. We had to give Primo Carnera {$12,000}, and that left us very
little for our costs to stage this bout. I will not offer Primo a rematch-bout. He is a complete inferior fighter."

    Graceful like an Ali jab,
sting like a butterfly and float like a bee.
There is only one that is the greatest
    and his name is Ali.

~ Primo Carnera Says He Was Forced To Quit By A Spectator With A Gun ~

Former Heavywoeght Champion - Primo Carnera who was stopped last night by Luigi Musina
in the 7th Round in his come-back bid, claimed he was forced to quit by gun-point.

    Primo Carrnera
"In the dressing room before the bout, we were told that the bout was cancelled, due to
unruly fans. I was told to get dressed, and to forget about the fight. Then 15-Minutes later,
we were told that the bout was back on, so I took off my clothes and put back on my boxing
    gear."

"Then the Promoter told us that he didn't have my final purse payment, and that I had to
wait another 30-Minutes for him to get the money from a local banker. While I was waiting,
it got real cold in the Dressing Room, so I had a large glass of Cognac to warm me up. Then
    I had '2' cigarettes."

"Then we were told that the bout was on, as the Promoter {Aldo Viasco} had gotten the rest
of my fight purse. When I walked out of the Dressing Room, the Arena {Sports Palace} was
real cold, almost freezing. All the spectators had their coats on. As I was walking down the aisle
and got near Ring, a 'drunk spectator' opened up his coat, and pulled out a pistol, and pointed
    it at me."

He said > "You better not win Primo, or you'll never get out of the Ring alive."

"I was un-nerved, and got real upset. I was really nervous when I got up in the Ring. When the
fight started, I was not worried about my opponent, as I was looking at the people at Ringside,
trying to see if anyone was aiming a pistol at me."

"Next thing I know, I was on the canvas. Then again a 2nd-time in the 1st Round. I didn't even
try to fight, as I was worried about getting shot in the Ring."

"At the end of the 6th Round, I didn't want to go on anymore, but my cornermen pushed me
out to fight at the start of the 7th Round. I let Luigi hit me at will, and finally I went down. I
told the Referee that I didn't want to fight anymore."

"I want a rematch. This time with protection, and under proper circumstances. I want a return
bout. I was in good shape last night, but the conditions were not proper."
