You can argue that poor people tend to have the most children and the government picks up the tab and the poverty cycle continues. Socialists should think about that one more when they talk of extreme consumption. For me it works for the top and bottom, but many bleeding hearts ignore the problems caused by those at the bottom. If you cannot afford something then you don't have it. Granted everyone needs a home, but do you get a mansion because you have 10 kids and are a burden in a world where 90% of the ocean stocks are gone? You have to get real at some stage.
Never heard you use the term "Bleeding hearts" until very recently. Admittedly you have left the Americanism ' Liberal ' ending off it, but still. You used to be your own man. Very few people have 10 kids, and even fewer have 10 kids and then get given a mansion. The guy in the Video is absolutely bang on, and not at all somebody who you could call a bleeding heart liberal. Sounds very much like a socialist though. One who opens up by telling everyone he came to the conclusions he did, because when imprisoned, he had nothing but time to think. Anyway you can go back to sticking your fingers in your ears now, and telling someone whose life experience and wisdom is unlikely to be matched by you or I, that
"You have to get real at some stage".

That's where I think a balanced system is the answer. Tip it too far towards socialism and nothing works and people want something for nothing. Tip it too far to the free market then eventually everybody will end up with nothing as a few have got it all. We haven't really worked it out at all.

I think one thing I have learned from living in a system with a minimal welfare state is that I cannot afford to rely on the system for anything and that makes you grow as a person. I am still a socialist, but I have much less sympathy for the excesses of the 'care, care, care' approach. I think more along the lines of 'Okay, here is a roof over your head and cheap nationalised utilities, but you really have to improve yourself if you want anything more and if you want kids, then you have to find a way yourself'. Self responsibility has to come into play at some stage and in an age of entitlement that is seriously lacking. Improve yourself, read some books, only get involved with someone reliable etc etc. Instead it's sex education for 6 year olds, soap operas, and fricking Facebook.

I think it was Neil Young who I heard recently say the human population is growing exponentially, the oceans are depleted, and the solution is to tell people that if they care they should be having less kids. Whatever we have now isn't working and going by government stats neither are the people.

With an aging population, which is a positive thing and an indicator of how enhanced society is, we do need more producing and serving. Hence why Germany wanted more Migrants coming into the country.

That is the line that gets trotted out, but it makes no sense when you consider the numbers and trends. Young people today typically live with their parents until their 30's and the only job creation is in jobs that pay little. If anything it costs the government money to keep people in these kinds of jobs with top ups and tax credits. The West doesn't need more people working in low paying labour as there is already chronic underemployment. These are not signs of an enhanced society, but are the hallmarks of serious decline. The future will see many low paying jobs becoming automised. Truck driving will decline as driverless cars take over, people on counters will decline as machines take their place, even today bookstores and music shops are fading as the Internet and downloading take over. Already those societies are putting the burden of the future on the credit card and it is a ponzi scheme that simply will not be able to sustain itself. Importing Mustaffa and his 4 kids is not really a solution to any of these chronic problems and will only cause further resentment.

    yeah it is

this is what the hippies were shouting about and the ravers and all the peace loving chill merchants over the years

yeah I don't give a fuck, I'm peaceful and chilled and love the world

But I fully understand that for me to be so at one with myself and everything else there has to be a balance and that includes doing things that I need to do to get what I need/want

I don't know if this gentleman was or is influenced by religion. Many of his thoughts parallel some religious beliefs but one does not necessarily need religion to have a decent moral code and this guy is admirable either way but let's face it, money isn't everything but it does allow more freedom and less angst. I say that but I've been to remote parts of China where they had dirt floors, no running water and little to no money and yet these villagers were happy. I spent a week living there and I can tell you I did find it hard to maintain a positive attitude. One thing I can say is my belly was full all the time. I was a guest, the villagers brought me food everyday, several times a day. Believe me, the last thing I wanted to do was take food who had little but I learned it is a terrible insult not to take what is offered there. I helped bring vaccines to these people and in the end the food trucks arrived was I was able to repay them 1000 fold.
the thing is, I think my western upbringing makes it harder to be happy struggling with money. I have done that, but for now at least I am comfortable. I'm not saying it is money that makes me happy, but struggling with bills or food does make it hard though not impossible to be happy. I will saying spending sometime poor in life does give you appreciation empathy. Before I get too old, I would like to provide aid in Africa. I say it, but I don't know if can do it now. I started a new career, needing to leave the medical feild for my mental health and its been great. Its dangerous work and the guys are training me well. I do still work with the homeless which is something that if able, we all should do but I don't look down on anybody who doesn't.
