    Default Kevin Mitchell retires

Kevin Mitchell calls off European title shot and retires from boxing | Boxing News | Sky Sports
Yeah , just saw that . I'm gutted to be honest, Mitchell is one of my favourite fighters , I was at the O2 when he fought Johanssen, it was a cracker. Mitchell is a proper boxer with good "old school" mentality.
Although I'm gutted , I'm also pleased he's been honest with himself and realises he's not feeling it anymore. That's the hardest thing for fighters to do really, especially because he's only 31. I don't want him getting seriously hurt.
Wouldn't surprise me to see him back in the ring in 18 months time , (or in nick!) I really wish him all the best for the future.

Very technically proficient boxer with a ton of heart who just couldn't get it together mentally. Finito will be gutted. I think after Katsidis he found it difficult to get over how psychological boxing can be. He lost that one during the ring walk. His masterclass against Prescott and dismantling of Murray now seem like highlights. I am not sure about white belts and lip gloss, but I think Finito was right about him being an underachiever. Hope he can find something productive to do now that he has hung up the gloves.

Considering the amount of titles available today he's probably the best Brit since Graham to not become "world" champ.

After turning the Johanneson fight around I was shocked at how tamely he folded against Katsidis. I don't think it's bollocks that his behaviour outside the ring cost him (considering the sources). He went from showing massive balls to looking like a bottle job to showing massive balls. Ricky Burns could have beat him but Mitchell at his best is never getting chinned.

I was pleased when I saw this, I said this morning that I don't think he ever fully recovered from the Katsidis fight, as was said before I think it was more physchological than anything, one thing that you can say for him is whenever he got beat, he got beat in style.

Had some real good tough fights, another fighter who is in between european and world level, just couldn't make it over that final hurdle

I must admit though I thought that he had been beaten more than 4 times.

Fair play to him I always liked him

Kevin had an exciting style of boxing which is why US fans liked him. On his A game he was a force for anyone unfortunately when he was not he was fighting Burns and Katasidis. His best performances were Prescott, Johansson, and Murray.
Do not let success go to your head and do not let failure get to your heart.
