Default My first fight in the Florida Golden Gloves open at 132lbs

Ive been debating whether this belongs in the "ask a trainer" section or here. Hope its here

I'd share my fight from the golden gloves tournament. Im an aspiring boxer being trained by Glen "The Road Warrior" Johnson in Miami, FL. I am looking to turn pro soon if you like what you see I ask that you please like my fan page https://www.facebook.com/Malik-Lewis-1049261355135548/ and follow my journey as I make it in the boxing world. In this fight Im the guy in the blue. Tell me what you think! Im always open to constructive criticism.

Note: There were too many contestants so they limited us to 2 mins instead of 3. The finals was 3 mins

    Heres the fight

Fuckin' A man, you got some talent good work in there. My main criticism is the camera work....turn that thing sideways and use panorama next time

Other than that you looked like you were in good shape, you were focused, you got your punches off quickly and your hands back on defense quickly (always important not to drop your hands after throwing a punch), you moved well you kept your head moving and your hands moving and when you connected once you immediately followed up (brilliant).

How long have you been boxing?

Keep up the good work and best of luck in your future bouts, keep us updated

I will say, when you touched the guy with the jab 2 times in a row when he was in close , drop that right cross on him or clip him with the left hook if you're in position...I think he got a little too close that time (around the 3:48 mark) and you didn't have your weight loaded up to fire off one of those shots, but you did right once you tapped him 1 time, you immediately fired off another jab to keep him from getting into a good position on you or firing off a punch of his own.

You boxed very well and that is awesome that you have "The Road Warrior" in your corner, I am betting he'll be a great asset in fights where you have to travel to someone else's back yard.

great fight, professional style, I was wrong, your punches looked sloppy on the heavy bag, maybe you were tired ... but in the fight all looked ok, ok for this level of course

You looked good. I'd like you on facebook but I'm not a member. Good luck. Keep that chin in and listen to one person, your trainer. Do not be in a rush to go pro. Bueno suerte.

I've boxed off and on for 7 years. You are far and away better than I ever was, so I won't pretend to critique you.

Stiff jabs in there, clever baiting him and countering with the straight right, I like the way you whip your left hook.

Any advice on how to get such leverage on the left hook?

I liked your page and commented on your Paulie Malinaggi pic. Pretty special you've sparred him and Rigondeaux.

No shit? That is very special to have that kind of experience so soon in the game for you. Learn absolutely everything you can from those experiences! I am certain those will pay off for you the more you fight.

    Exactly.

But did he ever spar a guy who fought a guy who fought Wladimir Klitschko? Lol

Haha, 1 more degree of separation there bud. I sparred Paul Jeanette and he always sparred with Jonathan Hagler who was brought in to spar with Wlad a couple times.....I certainly wasn't mixing it up with the best of the best, just whoever I could find to spar with and get work in

Lol I'm just giving you shit. You did very well to spar that guy.

I've sparred pro MMA fighters but only one pro boxer.

There was an enormous difference between the two. Mid to top level pro MMA fighters have whipped my ass, but that 5-2 or 6-2 (depending on the source) super middleweight just toyed with me and was kind not to stop me or really put it on me.

For how long you have been sparing i would say you have some talent for the sport and the fact that you get to have sparred with those guys is amazing. Then you have a legend with you in the corner you got about good as start as you can ask for hope you can get to make your dreams come true man.

I think I could beat up Floyd in sparring.
