Never thought i'd see Gavin in a cracking fight. Ironically, even though he got chinned, that was the most impressed i've ever been with him. Unfortunately he can't crack an egg and is to lazy to train down to the correct weight division.

Never thought Ogogo was a world beater but fuck me that was a bad loss. He looked clueless, got schooled, was puffing out his arse after a few rounds and quit. Not long before he's working full time in the media because he clearly ain't going anywhere in boxing.

Anthony Ogogo was retired from his fight against Craig Cunningham on Saturday because of a fractured eye socket.

The middleweight (11-1-KO7) suffered the first defeat of his career against Cunningham in Birmingham, with his corner calling the WBA international middleweight title fight off in the eighth round.

Ogogo had been knocked down in the second and was reported to be suffering with blurred vision when the fight was brought to a halt and his team said on Monday that a specialist believes the injury had been caused before the Cunningham fight even started.

The 27-year-old, a bronze medallist the 2012 Olympics in London, now faces a lengthy spell on the sidelines for the third time in his professional career, having only fought once from July 2014 until May 2016 because of Achilles and shoulder problems.

He said in a statement: "Firstly I would like to congratulate Craig Cunningham, his coach John Pegg and all of his team. They showed true class and I take nothing away from them. Despite what is an incredibly difficult time for me it was a pleasure to box in Birmingham.

"After seeing an eye specialist today it turns out that I have fractured my eye socket in two places. Given this, my vision and balance were affected to the point that I had to be pulled out.

"As soon as I went back to the corner after the first round I realised something was wrong, although at the time was unaware of the extent of it.

"Despite being bitterly disappointed I would like to thank my corner for pulling me out. Boxing is a tough sport and despite wanting to try and get through the fight on Saturday I realise my health must come first.

"This is obviously an incredibly tough time for me. I have overcome a lot of adversity previously and now face an uncertain time in terms of my eyesight with now another mountain to climb. However, I am ready for the challenge and will be giving everything I have to get back in the ring and to achieve my full potential."

Ogogo's promoter Kalle Sauerland hopes a rematch with Cunningham can be arranged when his fighter is back at 100 per cent fitness.

He said: "It was clear from the first round that Ant had difficulties finding his range and timing and that something was off.

"This is a very serious injury similar to that which Mikkel Kessler suffered during the Super Six and we will now focus on recovery before launching a comeback in 2017. Perhaps directly with a rematch if that can be made. Hats off to Cunningham and his team for taking full advantage and boxing superbly."

I think you can tell a lot about the way a fighter looks, obviously you cant be certain but it can give a good indication, and I always thought Ogogo looked a bit lanky and awkward and doesn't look like he could take a lot of punishment

i dont think his style suits his build either

Ogogo looked seriously rusty to me. He was tense, couldn't get his shots off and he dealt with his opponents southpaw style really very badly. In the amateurs, a much higher proportion of fighters are southpaw and you would have thought an Olympic bronze medalist would have fought and beaten many lefties, but it didn't look like it.

Ogogo got badly shaken many times by a guy with almost no history of knockouts, but who managed to out think and outbox a very decorated amateur. Maybe Ogogo had an off day, but I've never really thought he was going to a world beater.

I feel sorry for the guy, because he always turns up fit and makes weight (unlike some), but his litany of injuries just be so heartbreaking and difficult to deal with.

Frankie Gavin is just annoying. You could see he hadn't trained properly, has back had sagging fat on it and he was fleshy around the shoulders and arms too. He is a very skilful and cagey boxer, but carried no power because he is at the wrong weight. He showed some heart in there, but he certainly accepted the defeat too happily afterwards. Very little hunger in the guy.

Good luck to Eggington, but I cant really see him competing with people like Shawn Porter, Thurman, Brooke (?), Vargas or Garcia, never mind Pacquiaio. He was a bundle of energy alright, but he looked to me like he was gassing out. Easy to hit as well and he was getting asked up by a comparably light puncher.

Promoter Barry Hearn says the British Boxing Board of Control should look into the circumstances of Anthony Ogogo's loss to Craig Cunningham.

"The boxing board will want to get to the bottom of this situation because it's not good for boxing and it's not good for the fighter," Hearn said.

Ogogo's clash with Cunningham was among the bouts on a show promoted by Hearn's company Matchroom.

The loss was Ogogo's first as a professional in a career that has been blighted by injuries since he won bronze at the 2012 Olympics in London.

The fighter from Suffolk, who is promoted by the Sauerland family, spent a year out with an Achilles tendon injury in 2014 and dislocated his shoulder in his comeback fight.

"It's a really dangerous injury and something you don't play Russian roulette with in your own career," Hearn added to BBC Radio Suffolk.

"Anthony is a talented fighter. It's not the end of his career, but it very much depends on his own resourcefulness to continue and achieve his dreams.

"There's no doubt it's a huge setback, Anthony was a big favourite to win that fight."

Hearn just can't help himself when it comes to criticising and sticking the knife into the training, preaparation and handling of fighters who aren't his.
