Default What if Povetkin pulls off the upset?

AJ's the heavy favorite but....... what happens if Povetkin pulls off the upset?

What effect, if any, would this have on the scheduled Wilder-Fury fight? Would it still go off as scheduled?

Is there a rematch clause in the AJ-Povetkin contract?

This may all be acadamic, as AJ may very well polish off Povetkin within the distance. But boxing is the theater of the unexpected.

Let's say Povetkin pulls off the huge upset, and by knockout no less. He gets all of AJ's belts. My assumption is there is a rematch clause and AJ will want a shot at getting his belts back. But would any of this have an effect on Fury and Wilder? I'm hoping the fight goes off as scheduled in December, with no shenanigans from either side. HW has been too littered with bum calves, split eyelids, and other mysterious reasons as to why championship fights need to be postponed. But let's continue the assumption and say the fight occurs. Would Povetkin's upset further motivate both fighters, thinking they have more of a chance to get those belts from Povetkin than they would from AJ? Would it motivate one more than the other? Who knows. The heavyweight division is more of a soap opera than any of the other divisions put together.

Warren has scheduled the Press Conference to announce The Fury/Wilder fight for Monday. He says to avoid the Matchroom Joshua/Povetikin promo stuff but I think the stall has something to do with the outcome of that fight.

If Povetkin wins all bets are off. I think he is more likely to end up unconscious on his back but he cannot be written off. For a smaller heavyweight he is dangerous for all 12 rounds.

If Povetkin wins at all I'd imagine an immediate rematch or if AJ is badly KO-ed then I'd imagine there would be talks with Wilder and or Fury.

If Povetkin pulls off the upset, the look on Eddie's face will be a golden moment.

Wilder-Fury should still go ahead but both would fancy their chances against Povetkin.

There should be a rematch clause in the AJ-Povetkin contract as Eddie will cover all his bases. So Fury v wilder will happen

There will undoubtedly be a rematch clause.

Despite being a multiple drug cheat, Povetkin has always been a decent fighter .... but he is too small, too slow and too old to beat Joshua in the UK. Walking forward and trying to fight up close (which is Povetkins only tactic, ever) is a recipe for disaster against a bigger, taller, stronger fighter who controls distance well.

What does it say about AJ/Povetkin that people care more about how it affects Wilder/Fury than anything else about the fight? Hahaha, Eddie, tell me again how Wilder will face Breazeale

I'd actually like to see AJ get beat, if he got beat and then worked his way back to the top and won back the belts then it could go a long way towards getting rid of this stigma of the all important 0

Yea delaying the Wilder/Fury announcement until after the AJ fight seems like a ploy to wait on the outcome.

Hearn probably has Povetkin tied to a rematch clause but it will turn all the attention to the Wilder/Fury fight to see who emerges as the winner and the new #1 heavyweight.

I don't think many would rank Povetkin #1 if he wins.

I don't think there's a true #1 in the division right now....AJ, Wilder, Fury all have claim to be the best. They need to all fight each other.

You're right, and there aren't many fighters considered the true #1 in most divisions.

Agree that they all need to fight.

I think that says more about some fans than the fight. The AJ/Povetkin mandatory is happening while the Fury/Wider fight has not even been announced. If it were not for Fury, Wilder could well be fighting Breazeale. HaHaHa

If Povetkin did win, why shouldn’t he be seen as #1? If he were to win, because of his age, it won’t shake up the division for too long. But it does put a massive dent in the Matchroom/Sky/AJ Hype bandwagon.

I'm not sure many would rank him over Wilder, although the argument could be justified.

I would probably just chuckle randomly throughout the day. As for Povetkin, a scrap with Wilder would be next. He wouldn't run away and make any excuses.
