OK I'm going to try out this new system and see how it goes

Training this last week has been ok but not great.

Only 3 runs for the week and 4 night sessions.

Had Judo Monday and Wednesday, Boxing Tuesday and Thursday.

Took Friday off as didn't feel great. I started to get a tight neck at boxing on Thursday night and wanted to stretch before I started training but Kristine had already started training when i got there so i felt obligated to get started ASAP.

Friday my body hated me. Took Saturday off since kristine wasn't opening the gym to train anyway and I still felt a bit under the weather.

Sunday an old jogging buddy from the country came up to visit me. We took turns pushing her pram while jogging for 45 mins together which I thoroughly enjoyed.

Judo is still going really well but It's making the platue I'm facing at boxing more clear. I want to learn more than I am and I'm not sure what my mental block is. Something to think about!

Thursday night, Friday training

Thursday night went to boxing training. Had a round robin with 4 people - 1 min each round - 2 people in the ring and two out. It mwas normal sparring inside the ring and a bit of light partnerwork out. I'm not sure how long we did this but the time really flew.

We got through a fair bit though. Coach Paul explained to Dennis how to pull hit punches on impact so that he didn't use the weight of his (very solid) hand against me. I think this was a new concept for Dennis and he seemed uncomfortable with it but did it very well.

This made me realize I have the exact opposite problem - I don't push through enough on contact - I'm aiming to work on that in bag work.

Finished the session with bag work for 6 rounds.

Then cycled to the aquatic centre. Did 8 X 200 m fast intervals on the treadmill and my weights. I then went to go and swim but realised I'd forgotten my goggles and swim cap so ditched that idea and went home.

Friday night - judo - I got graded - I'm now a yellow belt! Then boxing - did bag work - increasing power and trying to still make my movement fluent.

I did a warm up, about 6 hard rounds on the bag and shadow cool down. I also got a bit of advice on how to set up body shots better from coach paul which I'll be trying to work on.

I also need to get into the habit of clenching my fist at the end of my punches. I suspect this habit is related to my not following through and always being in light mode.

How many belts are there? It must feel good to move up a grade, what comes after yellow?

How do they grade you, do lear different moves specific to each belt?

You have to be able to show them specific moves. I think it goes white, yellow, orange, green, blue, brown and black. Plus there are a few more things you can get to become a higher level black belt I think.

The lower belts are easier to get than the higher ones. Getting the yellow is nice but it isn't a big deal really. I think for some of the higher ones your need to have a minimum amount of experience and it takes longer if you don't compete.

I'll be pretty happy to get to blue belt by this time next year I think. I gather once you're at that level you can do a lot more of the fun stuff!

Cool so you obviously plan to stick at it then. You'll be doing mixed martial arts next!

Get some brazilian Ju Jitsu experience and you'll be a lethal killing machine.

You might even be able to hang with one of Katfight's kids and they are savages!

No I think Katfights kids would destroy me since they practice on each other all the time and are bred from tough fighting stock. I need to be realistic about my limits!

I'll leave Donny to his insane quest in taking on a challenge against her daughter and just prey that he manages to come through it with all his vital organs still functioning!
