Madras

I love a good curry. Ive made various attempts over the years to cook a good curry. Some have been really good, some have been disasters. One of the problems living where I do is in obtaining all of the ingrediants. The supermarkets out here really are awful. They have been getting better but are still very basic when it comes to herbs and spices. Anyways, I discovered a small Asian food store a while back and found they stocked wonderful stuff like coriander powder, tumeric and basically all the right ingrediants for a nice curry.
After searching the web I eventually came across a recipe that looked like it would do the job. A lovely beef Madras. I marinaded my beef in lemon and salt for a while whilst cutting up my onion, chiles and garlic. I mixed that up together and was ready to get cooking. An hour later, and after mixing together a grand total of no less than 15 different elements, I had my curry. The sauce was thick and smelled really good. It tasted fantastic and it honestly wouldnt have been out of place in a restaurant. My best ever attempt to make a curry.
Its great when you get something right because it makes up for all the times you got it wrong. And it means the wife cannot complain about you wasting all the food!

| | Good work! I like to try cooking different things occassionally.. Especially if you really like something, you want to keep trying and learning from your mistakes each time until you get it really good. Mine is fried rice.. The chinese restaurants make it delicious and the rice is always a perfect texture, but when I make it at home, the rice is always mushy.... I've tried a couple of different ways of preparing the rice a day early etc, but I have yet to get it right... I will keep trying though every time I hear of a new way of doing it |

| | Getting rice right can be tricky. We only get short grain rice in Korea and I find it a nightmare to cook. Always too sticky. Could really do with some nice Basmati rice actually. All of us 21st Century men should get our aprons on once in a while! |

| | Yeah, I should try some Basmati rice.. Their is a store not to far away that has a lot of asian and indian type ingredients and lots of different types of rices, so maybe i'll try that.. I've only ever bought white long grain rice, which is probably a lot similar to yours as it's very sticky.. I like getting the apron on.. I make awesome taco's and burgers to die for.. It's relaxing as well when you're cooking up a complex meal as you have to monitor a bunch of things at once and you don't have time to think about much else that's going on... Then you get a tasty treat at the end of it.. Anyway, keep up the good work buddy! |
