Dentist

I went to the dentist for the first time in 5 years today. It was a tough one for me beause I really do have issues with hospitals and dentists. Hospitals are places where people often die and dentists are places where they drill inside your mouth! Of course, you can turn that around and say doctors can cure people and dentists can stop toothache. I suppose Im a glass is empty kind a guy! I always been scared of going to the dentist knowing that there are also potential communication issues because of where I am. Its all too easy just to not bother with.

I knew I had to go eventually and so I reluctantly agreed to go. I have been able to feel with my tongue some damage on two of my lower back teeth. I tried ignoring it but I knew that that was no long term solution. Anyway I went in and was able to observe some close up images of all my teeth. Dentistry has changed a lot since I last went! I was pleased that my teeth were so clean looking, not bad really. They were too wonky but I am English after all. I was able to see for myself what was wrong. I had chipped at the fillings on two teeth and basically had two thin walls on each tooth which were liable to break whnever I ate something too crunchy. The cavity needed refilling and the walls strengthened

The dentist drilled out my old fillings and put in some temporary ones. If I feel no pain I can go back next week and get gold ones put in. If I feel pain then that is a sign I may need root canal treatment. The former sounds nicer. Ive never felt any pain and Im feeling no pain now so Im hopeful of getting the gold stuff put in.

It was a tough ordeal for me sitting in the chair though. The dentist actually spoke really good English and explained everything very well but sitting in the dentists chair is hard work. I hate holding my mouth open for long periods and I get concious of having to try to breath. Very unpleasant. I also had 3 nurses just standing around looking at my open mouth which made me feel uncomfortable. I came out of it all feeling drained and with my shirt soaking wet at the back.

It was very cheap though. Only cost me the equivalent of 5 pounds. I didnt ask how much my gold fillings would cost though.
