OK I'm going to try out this new system and see how it goes

Training this last week has been ok but not great.

Only 3 runs for the week and 4 night sessions.

Had Judo Monday and Wednesday, Boxing Tuesday and Thursday.

Took Friday off as didn't feel great. I started to get a tight neck at boxing on Thursday night and wanted to stretch before I started training but Kristine had already started training when i got there so i felt obligated to get started ASAP.

Friday my body hated me. Took Saturday off since kristine wasn't opening the gym to train anyway and I still felt a bit under the weather.

Sunday an old jogging buddy from the country came up to visit me. We took turns pushing her pram while jogging for 45 mins together which I thoroughly enjoyed.

Judo is still going really well but It's making the platue I'm facing at boxing more clear. I want to learn more than I am and I'm not sure what my mental block is. Something to think about!

New morning training plan

Posted 03-03-2008 at 03:04 AM by Sharla
Right so I always have a habbit of planning more than I have time for and under-estimating how much energy my workouts take out of me. I seem to think every time I plan my training that I am gifted with super powers and no training load or time constraints can beat me. Then i fail miserably.

So while planning my training on the weekend I realized swimming after boxing or judo and then getting up to run in the morning was not going to work because of the little detail of me actually requiring sleep to recover!

Also I cycled for transport most of last week and found that although it doesn't make me any fitter it does wear me down. Autumn has just begun here too and I'm not looking foreward to cycling in the rain.

This is my solution - trialled it this morning:

Short run on the treadmill - around 5 km. This morning did warm up followed by 2 X 600m, 2 X 400m and 2 X 200m with 400m recovery run between each interval.

Then a short weights circuit - 6 exercises, 2 sets of each - no breaks.

Then a 20 min swim. Did 50 m freestyle, 50 m breastroke and 50 m backstroke continuously for that time.

Seems to work well because I can do the weights while keeping my heart rate up a bit. I'm warmed up by the run and stretched and cooled down by the swim. Then caught a bus (actually 2 buses) directly to uni. Will bus to Judo tonight and stretch before bed.

Hopefully this is doable all week unlike my usual programs! I can still mix workouts up by doing different weights, different types of 5 km runs and have lots of options for how to mix up the swim.

Sounds like a plan Sharla, I've read many times that 90% of people who are engaged in a regular exercise program are overtraining.
