Rare occasion where I actually agree with you. The racism HBO exhibited was bad but the negative commentary hurt fights and the sport.
Larry Merchant was a great boxing analyst and commentator. He was very articulate and had a talent for words, and was always fair in his commentary.
Max Kellerman in contrast is extremely biased and racist. He absolutely hates white boxers, and always roots against them.
Both Max Kellerman and Larry Merchant (who changed his name from Kaufman) are Jewish.
I think Lampley was pretty bad enthusiastically calling invisible punches like he was reading from a kids comic book. Foreman was bad too, not sure if that's racist also or just factual. He stunk.
Foreman was useless. He would’ve never gotten the gig if his comeback and crossover name with the grill wasn’t such a big story. I don’t think Merchant or Kellerman were racist, only biased towards their preferred style of fighting. Don’t think either of them actually added much to a fight, and I couldn’t stand either of their post fight interviews. Lampley was technically a great colour commentator, cheerleading aside he had the kind of voice and enthusiasm that you want, he was entirely capable of being very good I assume.
Dunno bud his breakdown just now was pretty legit. I came in full on Kovalev fan and root for him but as Max says, he doesn't take responsibility and comes off like he's looking for scape goats. Blaming others for what happens to him, imagine that.
Oh no...and McGirt is training him now :-X
Brian Kenny n Sergio Mora are fantastic on Dazn
I’ll admit it I loved merchant he was a bit senile but I looked forward to hearing him. I also liked foreman and wish he would do more announcing but he is my favorite fighter so he could sit at the mike and say nothing I’d still be happy. I don’t know if you gets watch broadway boxing, they do boxing matches out of NY mostly smaller venues, they have interesting announcers. Farhood is a regular I always liked him. Merchant threatening to kick Floyd’s ass if he was 50 years younger was one of the great moments in boxing history.
I like Larry Merchant, sure he sounded a bit like a drunk uncle at times but overall he was fun.
I always thought Larry was comically full of himself. He would give us just that right amount of pause before gifting us his wrap-up comments.... eyebrow raised just so..... and would then rhapsodize and say some shit about Shakespeare or something while trying to make some sort of analogy, before getting to the point. He wasn't without knowledge, but did have that "drunk uncle" look.
I was never a fan of Merchant either. He was a bit annoying. HBO had a problem getting really good commentators. I did like Lampley when I was younger but quickly got annoyed of him.
Kellerman is white so it’s weird you think he is racist against white fighters. Biased is one thing but racist is ridiculous. Also, he loves GGG who is white, so that ruins your argument.
Now if you are talking about Roy Jones, then I will agree that he is very bias towards black fighters over white fighters.
He's Jewish, so he doesn't consider himself white. He believes he's superior.Roy will usually give white boxers credit when they deserve it, Max will not. Roy doesn't lie and minimize white fighters accomplishments like Kellerman. For example, I remember when Hatton KOed Jose Luis Castillo, Max immediately said "Castillo is shot".Quote:
