It's just Another One of Wacko's Drunken Round by Rounds : Kessler vs Andrade
The weekend has passed & just a few short days away comes another Saturday...you know what that means, right?
There’s another match on HBO this weekend.
Gotdam right…but more important...it’s drinkin time again…oh yeah...& it's time for another installment of Wacko's Drunken Round by Round.
Coming up this Saturday March the 24th, 2007 wer’e packin our bags, a clean pair of drawers, & headin to the Parken Stadium in Copenhagen, Denmark as Super Middleweight sensation Mikkel Kessler (38 fights with 29 ko's & 0 losses) makes his American television debut on HBO's Boxing After Dark telecast.
Yep...wer'e going dark baby...HBO B.A.D. is in effect.
Mikkel Kessler.
The name brings up more variables than the Rubix Cube.
Many doubt, many pray, many speculate, & many criticize all matters concerning the Viking Warrior Mikkel Kessler.
His fans are as rabid as his critics are vicious, but only a fool would label Kessler ordinary or unworthy of his status as a top contender in the race to be crowned the Super Middleweight king.
That being said…it would also seem that only an idiot would deem him a pretender…but both of actions have come to pass & his battle rages on to acquire a title amongst the fans as worthy as the two that he holds and currently defends.
Now I am sure that there are those of you out there that would label ole’ Wacko as a “fan” of the Danish champ…& all “cockery” aside…I’d agree…in the most non-homophobic of ways…but I am a fan of the man.
I know and realize that even the most die hard boxing fans…& most American boxing fans are predisposed to believing that Kessler is little more than a hometown hero...a protected product of the Danish countryside.
Nothing could be further from the truth…but this is only my opinion…& the proof is in the pudding.
Kessler has proven to be much more than just a worthy contender or ursurper to king Calzaghe‘s throne & the fact that most fight fans are still speculating his abilities & talents almost falls as an insult to his fans.
The problem is…one cant be blamed for all the questions and second guesses.
Until late, Kessler had pretty much followed the same path as our current reigning Super Middleweight kingpin Joe Calzaghe…the easy path...the questionable path.
Argueabley the only differnece is that in the last two to three years...Kessler has faced & continues to face the more worthy opposition.
In a desperate bid to gain a strangle hold on the American viewing public & strenghten his bid for a clash with the Welsh Dragon, Kessler pretty much as to make a major statement on HBO’s Boxing After Dark this weekend.
Believe it or not…the American public is looking for a someone to fill the void of 168lb prospect gone bad Jeff Lacy & that very man could be Kessler…it sure isn‘t going to be Calzaghe, IWO. Instead of stepping up to the plate & fighting respectable ranked contenders…Calzaghe has chosen to fight an actual…Contender…a reality based one…but we won‘t go that far…I aint drunk enough to start that rant & this is Kessler‘s show…not Joe‘s.
The undefeated 27 year old Danish powerhouse will defend his WBA & WBC titles against another undefeated & highly regarded opponent as he squares up against Mexico’s Librado Andrade (24 fights with 18 ko’s & o losses) in what promises to be either a blowout or one hell of a battle.
It’s hard to imagine that boxing & it’s fans could be blessed with another war like the one that HBO gave us last weekend courtesy of the Marquez Barrera slugfest…but one never knows does one?
Watch the replay...it's on first I believe.
My pick?
Kessler over a grueling 12 rounder.
I personally think that many are underestimating the resolve of Andrade & this will be a goody.
A win for Kessler should lead to a showdown & unification bout with King Calzaghe but it will most likely net him a rematch against his vanquished foe & recent winner of the vacant WBA Super Middleweight title Anthony Mundine.
Mundine was beaten by Kessler via a UD in the Aussie's own backyard. Mundine went on to win 5 matches in a row & 4 of them by knockout. He did what no man has done & dropped the rugged Sam Soliman mulitple times in their battle roughly two weeks ago.
Personally...I'd rather see a Kessler Calzaghe showdown than a Mundine rematch...but I aint too sure if Warren will risk Calzaghe's undefeated record against the strenght & skills of Kessler & I would think that Mundine earned the rematch by hammering out Kessler's sparring partner.
If Calzaghe would consider a Kess fight...there'd be some seriuos negotiationg & step aside money involved I am sure.
Anywho…once again…I give my weekend’s up for you…my fellow forum goers & ask only one thing in return…that you toss the remote, tip you glasses, pop some tops, & turn ‘em up till they run dry…it’s fight night.
Cheers…& koneecheewah bitches.

Re: It's just Another One of Wacko's Drunken Round by Rounds : Kessler vs Andrade
I dont know all that much about Andrade TBH, I will watch this fight with interest...Hopefully it will be a goody....I would like to see Kessler tested...
Re: It's just Another One of Wacko's Drunken Round by Rounds : Kessler vs Andrad
I don't know anything at all about Andrade. Ideally though--because what I (like most of us) really want to see is Kessler/Calzaghe--it would be a tough, competitive fight for six or seven rounds, ending with a dramatic and impressive Kessler KO in R7 or so. I think that's the best scenario for forcing Joe's/FW's hand.

Agreed. :coolclick: mistah miles.
Andrade, while not as well known by fans as Kessler...who is...well...not that well known either, is no joke.
Neither one is.
I see this being a tuffy for Kess...but one that he can pull out. The problem is...if Kessler does falter...he'll be pretty much written off by everyone & that's a shame. The man's a hell of a fighter & damned exciting when on point.
The thing is...Kess has been tested before by Mundine...& while I can't stand "the Man" he is a pretty good fighter that has improved under the guise of Roy Jones Sr.

Good points on the Calzaghe factor. If Kessler shows out against Andrade then Calzaghe & Warren better not run...which is honestly what I think is happening now. If Calzaghe injures himself or goes away or loses or whatever...Mundine will be the next option.
Honestly...I don't think that Andrade has as good of a shot as Mundine will if there is a Kessler rematch.
I'm hoping for a tuff fight that ends with a Kessler TKO. We shall see.
This is a really REALLY good fight for boxing & the Super Middle division.

Now before anyone climbs down ole's Wacko's neck over the above statement...I'm a huge fan of Calzaghe & Kessler both...but I truly believe that neither he nor management wants any part of Kessler.
I could be wrong...but I don't think so. The problem with that though is that I truely believe that Kessler would bring out the best in Joe & visa versa.
Again...we shall just have to wait & see.
Re: It's just Another One of Wacko's Drunken Round by Rounds : Kessler vs Andrad
id love to vote and give some input but sadly i cant because i have no clue about Andrade but cc anyway wacko
Re: It's just Another One of Wacko's Drunken Round by Rounds : Kessler vs Andrade
CC for you WACK ;D I just hope that Kessler can beat him and finally push JC to want to fight him. It will be the biggest fight at 168 and it has to be made. I will not be happy if it dont happen because i know it should! it wouldnt make sense not to.
But if Kessler dont win it i really dont no what to say, it would be shocked and i couldnt see JC wanting to fight Andrade it would just be confusion.
lets hope he gets through the fight and we can see a JC-MK match up soon
Re: It's just Another One of Wacko's Drunken Round by Rounds : Kessler vs Andrade
I think I've seen Andrade fight before. I wish I had faster internet so I could watch more of him. Kessler is there to be beat imo, and I think a good straight punching counter puncher would do wonders against Kessler. Just not sold on him.
Can anyone give me a quick rundown on this guy?
Re: It's just Another One of Wacko's Drunken Round by Rounds : Kessler vs Andrade
Fuck it!
Jot me down for Kessler by Dec.
I was gonna say TKO but I don't wan't to put Librado there as I think hes tough enough to go the full 12....
Re: It's just Another One of Wacko's Drunken Round by Rounds : Kessler vs Andrade
I have Kessler by TKO. One thing to remember is I saw Andrades fight against an old Grant. Grant connected several times with Andrade but he lacked the power to keep Andrade away. Kessler has power in both hands so unless Andrade have improved defense I dont think he will last the distance. But anyway I think Andrade will give Kessler a real hard fight. Next is the rematch with Mundine how looks stronger than he did last time he fought. Kessler that would be a great match. O0

IMO, Librado was trying really hard to please the crowd it was the step to a title fight, it was on TV, home crowd and when the bell rang he came out flying trying to KO Grant....
He partially threw defense out the window and was only thinking KO, he has a better defense and is a more calm and collected fighter but you could defenitely see he was working on a blood rush..... I agree with you Grant connected with some solid shots there but Andrades proved to have a nice set of whiskers Cervera & Mendoza both had a good KO percentages....
For those who asked about Andrade heres my :twocents: on him.....
Andrade fights flat footed, hes heavy handed and has been able to beat some very prominent opponents Stewart, Kopitko (which I had the pleasure of attending), O. Grant and has stopped fighters that other fighters haven't......
He does lack skill as far as footwork and ring generalship, sometimes he'll stand in one place for too long BUT he is throwing punches so hes not just standing not doing nothing.....
Hes not afraid to stand there and trade though Kessler is probably slightly faster then Andrade. I think Adrande can put his punches together better then Kessler and mixes it up a bit more....
Andrades best chance is attack Kessler to the body which Andrade does very well, Andrade attacks body, body, head he mixes it up to me thats his best chance attack the body and try to take Kessler all the way into the later rounds also Andrade fights busier.....
As far as a jab I sware to me their jab is almost indentical Andrades might be heavier as I think he puts his whole body into it but Kesslers jab is faster and is more of a range finder.....
All in all i think it's gonna be a good scrap once both get warmed up.....
Re: It's just Another One of Wacko's Drunken Round by Rounds : Kessler vs Andrade
This could be a interesting fight, I was checking out their record on boxrec and I give the competition edge to Kessler. The only thing that stood out on Andrade's record was his last fight when he knocked out Richard Grant in the first round, the same guy that took Lacy the distance. Both fighters have some good power so I dont see it going the distance. I am picking Kessler K.O. around 5th round.Kessler started five years after Calzaghe and is only about 4-5 fights behind him ATM.Not bad.
