Fury v Wilder - Staples Center, Los Angeles 1/12/18
This is the date and venue thats being talked about.
Undercard is rumoured to be Santa Cruz v Russell Jnr and Gervonta Davis v Abner Mares with more fights to follow.
On Showtime & BT Sport PPV.
Looks a decent card in the making, hope Warren can get a few of his other UK fighters on the bill too.

Sorry, Eddie told me Wilder is fighting Breazeale so why would I believe anything else?

Re: Fury v Wilder - Staples Center, Los Angeles 1/12/18
Staples Center has emerged as the favorite to stage a Dec. 1 heavyweight title fight between unbeaten champion Deontay Wilder and former champion Tyson Fury of England.
Wilder’s co-manager Al Haymon has turned to the Los Angeles venue because of scheduling conflicts in Las Vegas and New York. Staples Center has previously staged two heavyweight title bouts featuring Vitali Klitschko and has had success drawing interest for lightweight matches.
Brooklyn’s Barclays Center has a Michelle Obama speech scheduled on the night of Dec. 1 while T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas is the site of a Justin Timberlake concert that night.

Russell Jr vs Santa Cruz would be awesome.

That's a Latino venue, Wilder-Fury will be decent undercard for Santa Cruz and Mares, and should the fight not even happen it makes perfect sense.

Re: Fury v Wilder - Staples Center, Los Angeles 1/12/18
Doesn't sound like those fights will be on the undercard now.

I was skeptical that the fight was going to happen. I mean I’m still a little skeptical, but it’s definitely looking more likely.

Re: Fury v Wilder - Staples Center, Los Angeles 1/12/18
Fury isn't ready for this, he needs a few more months to get into his best shape, and at least one more warm-up fight, preferably two, against better opponent(s) than the two he fought this year.
If it happens on Dec 1, Wilder will knock Fury out with one of his wild hay-makers.

Re: Fury v Wilder - Staples Center, Los Angeles 1/12/18
Now we know Frank Warren's week is 34 days long.

Yep definitely agree with that 100%. Fury needs more time, I believe a prepared Fury will win a decision but this Fury will get KO'd. I hope he surprises me but I don't see it happening.

Re: Fury v Wilder - Staples Center, Los Angeles 1/12/18
The timing of this announcement (yesterday) is a blatant attempt to steal some of the thunder from AJs big weekend.
The more I think about this fight the more I like it.
Crazy clash of styles, almost schzisophrenic from both fighters.
For a massive guy Fury is slick on his feet, awkward as fuck and can switch hit effectively and he looks in great shape but Wilders got a nuclear bomb of an equaliser waiting for him.
Hope the rumoured undercard comes through which will make this a wicked night.

First 30 seconds of this video shows what Tyson can do to shutdown Wilder. Was looking for Mickeys pep talk about hurting the ribs, cant find it.

I'm sure Fury pulls out some time before fight night
-
Re: Fury v Wilder - Staples Center, Los Angeles 1/12/18
Yeh sounds way too easily made with the way initial fight plans for both Wilder and Fury go. I'd put money on a postponement but at least they got the push on a AJ fight night ;D. Still cannot get the image of Fury going down like a darted giraffe v Cunningham though.

Furys off to Big Bear in California to set up camp, only leaves 9 weeks before fight night.
There's supposed be a big announcement today but it's all gone quiet again.

Re: Fury v Wilder - Staples Center, Los Angeles 1/12/18
Are you sure it wasn't the announcement of an upcoming announcement? ;D
I'd love to know what conversations have gone on behind closed doors. No way did Frank ever want Fury knocking heads with Wilder three fights in, if at all.

It's brilliant! Furys like a mad dog Warren has fuck all control over.
If he doesn't like something he just pisses on it and cracks on 😂

He's a strange dude. I wouldn't be shocked by that at all. I also wouldn't be shocked if Fury goes in and lasts 12...there's no telling what could happen. I just eventually want all the belts on 1 guy.
-
Re: Fury v Wilder - Staples Center, Los Angeles 1/12/18
Tyson Fury will have all of the belts by Mayday next year
-
Re: Fury v Wilder - Staples Center, Los Angeles 1/12/18
Warren has publicly stated that THE big press conference to kick start this is happening next Monday in London followed by a few presses over in the US.
They've left this extremely late in the day to give the fight the maximum hype.
At 4am UK time on BT sports PPV I really don't see this doing over 300,000 PPV buys here.
-
Re: Fury v Wilder - Staples Center, Los Angeles 1/12/18
350,000 bcuz Wilder is still unknown even in America
-
Re: Fury v Wilder - Staples Center, Los Angeles 1/12/18
Wilder in his biggest fight to date against Ortiz only sold 14,500 Tickets.
That's pathetic for a Heavyweight Champion.
What amazes me is that he's pure entertainment with a 100% KO ratio.
Just shows how badly he's been promoted.

At this rate, he won’t have had another fight by Mayday next year.

There hasn't been an American heavyweight champion before Wilder since Shannon Briggs over a decade ago (oops.... did I neglect to mention Charles Martin?), and Briggs defended exactly zero times.
Before that it was a blur of Rahman, Brewster and Ruiz. The last popular, credible American HW champion let's face it was Evander Holyfield, about 100 years ago.
He's undefeated with that amazing KO ratio.
Floyd is gone and let's face it...... Floyd was more hated than admired.
Wilder fills a huge void in boxing's glamour division in the States.
Yet, he fights out of Alabama and sells 15 thousand tickets.
Conclusion: YES. Wilder's promoters are absolutely the worst promoters in the history of mankind.

Re: Fury v Wilder - Staples Center, Los Angeles 1/12/18
Has this fight still not been made? Fuck me, 3 weeks ago, Warren said it was “on” and the deal was “99% done” fuck me , that 1% is a real stumbling block!
-
Re: Fury v Wilder - Staples Center, Los Angeles 1/12/18
Is 15000 that bad? Most fights in America are not exactly fought in stadiums. America is also very different to the UK where most of the population lives in the compressed south which is like an 1/8 of the size of a typical US state. The UK is tiny and the US as a whole is huge and quite spartan in a lot of places. Canelo sold 21000 last week, so Wilder at 14000 in a weak division is doing okay. The Fury fight will bring him more attention and then once he knocks out Joshua he is then a star and even then won't sell out US stadiums as the dynamics are different. He would fight in the usual arenas other fighters do.
-
Re: Fury v Wilder - Staples Center, Los Angeles 1/12/18
He's still badly promoted. A skillful promoter would've been more proactive, and gotten him some fights in Vegas by now. A lot of casual fans don't even know who Deontay Wilder is..... and the guy has won 40 professional fights!
-
Re: Fury v Wilder - Staples Center, Los Angeles 1/12/18
I asked 5 teenagers who Deontay Wilder is, and 3 said "a YouTuber", and 2 said "a rapper from LA".
😦😕😞😞😞😞😞

Re: Fury v Wilder - Staples Center, Los Angeles 1/12/18
Wilder can't sell tickets (even those 15,000 numbers are bollocks as it covers all the "comps" (freebees) not the actual sales) however, he is the most WATCHED fighter on Showtime, his fight with Ortiz broke his previous record (1.1m - Stiverne). And more watched than all the non-ppv HBO fighters too.
So it's silly to pretend he's a nobody, he's more popular with Americans than - Crawford, M. Garcia, Kovalev, Spence, Ward, Broner, Loma, Porter, D. Garcia, etc.
And selling 7,000 tickets - even in your hometown - is solid by any "normal" fighters standards. However, when compared with PPV stars like Joshua, Canelo, Floyd and Pac it's absolute peanuts, as they are PPV stars too (doing a million+ BUYS), as well as selling out stadiums and Vegas (where one ticket is worth more than 20 normal ones).
If Wilder wasn't a big draw on TV he wouldn't even be considered for PPV. He is doing alright.

Re: Fury v Wilder - Staples Center, Los Angeles 1/12/18
Sounds like the undercard fighters already mentioned are no longer fighting on the card.
"The Ring reports that Staples Center has defeated Mandalay Bay in the battle for Deontay Wilder vs. Tyson Fury, which takes place on December 1st via Showtime pay-per-view. As the article states, this will be the first “significant heavyweight title fight in L.A.” since Lennox Lewis bested Vitali Klitschko 15 years ago
This will be Wilder’s (40-0, 39 KO) second appearance in L.A., having smashed Kelvin Price in 2012 at the now-demolished Sports Arena, and Fury’s (27-0, 19 KO) first Stateside bout since fighting back from a knockdown to stop Steve Cunningham in 2013.
There was supposed to be a press conference for this fight yesterday, but it’s apparently been bumped to next Monday to make room for the Usyk-Bellew conference. It looks as though the grand ambitions to put Leo Santa Cruz vs. Gary Russell Jr. and Gervonta Davis vs. Abner Mares on the card fell through, but The Ring names Jarrett Hurd and Luis Ortiz as possible co-stars."
