ROY JONES SAYS HE'LL TAKE 40-60 TO FIGHT CALZAGHE!!
ROY JONES JR WILLING TO ACCEPT 40-60 SPLIT TO FIGHT CALZAGHE IN UK!
By G. Leon
Says if offer isn't accepted Calzaghe "must be scared"
Yesterday afternoon BoxingTalk.com received a call from a particularly confused Roy Jones Jr. The former pound for pound kingpin is wondering why Team Joe Calzaghe has virtually ignored his proposal to fight the King of Cardiff in the UK later this year. In an effort to show that he should still be considered one of the world's best, Jones makes it clear that he would fight Calzaghe in the UK under a 40-60 split, 40% for Jones, 60% to Calzaghe. RJ willing to accept less than parity? Yep. Read the full must read one on one interview to see what Jones had to say, you don't want to miss it. ONLY ON BOXINGTALK.
rest of it must be a member on boxingtalk.net
WOW... Jones must really want this fight! :o

Re: ROY JONES SAYS HE'LL TAKE 40-60 TO FIGHT CALZAGHE!!
Would it prove anything if calzaghe beat 2007 Jones. A 1998 Jones yes indeed but Roy is way over the hill now.
-
Re: ROY JONES SAYS HE'LL TAKE 40-60 TO FIGHT CALZAGHE!!
I like the way Jones offers a 40-60 split as if it proves he's hungry. Lets be honest Jones Jr is faded and damaged goods. He ain't worth more than 40%. Who really cares to see Calzaghe fight a guy who has lost 3 of last 4, been knocked spark out twice and showed in the rubber match with Tarver that he just no longer has the courage or heart to get into any exchanges.
The worrying thing for me though is that Frank Warren will be seeing such a fight exactly the same way as me but will regard all these negatives as great assets as Jones Jr represents the easiest big name fight out there for Joe Calzaghe now. :-\

Re: ROY JONES SAYS HE'LL TAKE 40-60 TO FIGHT CALZAGHE!!
Calzaghe is scurred, that fight would bring alot more than 35000 to Millenium stadium, and Jones is the one guy hes got a good shot at beating, hes a fool to pass on this if he does.It would prove alot to me, dont try and pull that whats it gonna prove crap..whats fightinh Manfredo gonna prove, hes a scurred mofo thats what.

Re: ROY JONES SAYS HE'LL TAKE 40-60 TO FIGHT CALZAGHE!!
I can only hope that THIS time, Jones is for real, and something comes of his statements. First he wanted to fight Calzaghe, then B-hop, then Taylor, I think Manfredo was even in there for a while, now its back to Calzaghe. Roy Jones IS the greatest P4P fighter of all time, but lately he has not made good on his statements, and doesn't seem to have the hunger anymore. I hope this fight gets made, and Jones adds one more World Champion to his list of victims.

Re: ROY JONES SAYS HE'LL TAKE 40-60 TO FIGHT CALZAGHE!!
Calzaghe does'nt hit as hard as Tarver and Johnson so i doubt he would stop him Jones did well in his 3rd fight with Tarver this would still be a step up for Calzaghe even though Jones is 38 and me personally fancy Jones chances to beat Calzaghe
-
Re: ROY JONES SAYS HE'LL TAKE 40-60 TO FIGHT CALZAGHE!!
I have serious doubts about Roy getting back down to 168 after a decade of being at 175 or above.
-
Re: ROY JONES SAYS HE'LL TAKE 40-60 TO FIGHT CALZAGHE!!
It will be hard but it is only 7lbs if he does it right he will be ok
-
Re: ROY JONES SAYS HE'LL TAKE 40-60 TO FIGHT CALZAGHE!!
I think Jones could pull it of, but he is no manFRODO, sorry I sometimes get confused Manfredo 8), so I would regard this as a valid fight. If Jones really want this fight let him have it, since Kessler is not stepping up an the plate right now.
To Frank I will fight Calzaghe myself I only take 5% call me the Danish bacon warrior, a know brand and maybe the Americans think that I'm Kessler, and I´m undefeated O0
-
Re: ROY JONES SAYS HE'LL TAKE 40-60 TO FIGHT CALZAGHE!!
I would fight Calzaghe for free if i could get down to 12 stone Frank could lie to the paying public again saying im unbeaten in 20 odd fights
-
Re: ROY JONES SAYS HE'LL TAKE 40-60 TO FIGHT CALZAGHE!!
Umm i need to know how Jones done in his last fight before i make any sort of prediction but good thing is Jones never accepts for less money so Jones must be hungry lets hope he is really up for this fight and can give us good showing.
-
Re: ROY JONES SAYS HE'LL TAKE 40-60 TO FIGHT CALZAGHE!!
He did well in his last fight and he did'nt do to bad in his last Tarver fight
-

WATCH OUT CALZAGHE!!!

Cause a Supposedly faded Jones would be the toughest fight in the career of a much celebrated champion who along with his promoter has managed to buffalo the general public on his choice of opponents throughout the ladder stages of his career. :-\ thats why
He wont fight Jones but had no problem fighting Bika and Manfredo who supposedly was Joe's golden ticket to american superstardom... Why not fight our generations most gifted fighter and great who regardless of peak condition or not garners more in the american public eye..... Again I'll answer that cause that whole Manfredo waste was his easy way to 20, and I'm sorry but Rjj is bigger, faster, stronger and would beat Calzaghe from pillar to post ;)

Mick I almost fell off my chair!!!!!!! you are a very intelligent man, consider Calzaghe who has twigs for hands and dosent have the power to KO Jones and will most likely try to slap him to death.. Jones will have no respect for Calzaghe's power and at 38 will still be more elusive than any one Joe has fought and is still faster and stronger than him... You best believe Roy still has the snap to bust Calzaghe up.
Calzaghe will be way over his head in this fight

OR SLAPPED HALF TO DEATH.... I already know who I'm inviting to my 1st picnic this summer Joe Calzaghe... he can keep all the flys out of me potato salad with those fast swatting hands...
Fenster I luv ya like a fellow boxing brutha.. But you of all people should know Joe deserves every last bit of this critisim and more.... Again Manfredo was the golden ticket to american superstardom.... Why not Jones, he is still 10x the fighter Manfredo is and would garner 50x the appeal to the american public.... AND YOU KNOW THIS MAN ;D

What, he's willing to fight a never-proven Manfredo but not a past-proven Jones? Seems to me the time to be selective about quote-unquote inferior opponents has come and gone. Step in, beat Jones, and Calzaghe will really get his name in neon lights.

I don't understand why you think Calzaghe wouldn't want this fight? This would be like a dream come true to him...and believe me you'll be in a slim minority that actually think Old Roy has a chance.
But this fight wont happen.
1. Roy probably thinks there's about $30m in the pot. Thats why he's happy for 40%
2. Roy has about as much chance as Butterbean in getting to 168.
3. Roy aint stupid. That's why last time seen in a ring he fought for $500,000 against Prince Onion Bahji.

In your opinion what attributes do you feel Joe has over Roy at this point which will lead him to slaughter the great Roy Jones?

Re: ROY JONES SAYS HE'LL TAKE 40-60 TO FIGHT CALZAGHE!!
Well a good place to start would be the fact that Old Roy is totally shot.
It's bad enough as it is now having the terrible knockouts by Tarver and Johnson tarring his great career...I don't wanna see him lying in the ring comatose anymore. Which sadly, not just Calzaghe, but any top fighter would do to him at this stage.

Re: ROY JONES SAYS HE'LL TAKE 40-60 TO FIGHT CALZAGHE!!
I gotta go with Fenster on this one, this is NOT the RJJ p4p best fighter anymore. In his recent fights you have seen diminished hand speed, diminished power, less willingness to trade and most importantly his bread and butter his REACTION TIME is not there at the level where it was when he was so dominant.
RJJ with poor reaction time + JC's handspeed and footwork = JC mid-round TKO.
stronger odds on this fight never coming off though.

When was the last time Joe had a legitimate KO???  Roy will not respect Calzaghe's power and will engage him and put a hurtin on him.... I'm tellin you, I'm tellin you!!!!!!
He dosent need to be PFP best to beat Calzaghe

I'm not saying he's gonna KO him, he's gonna TKO him, volume punches. PLUS the ref will prolly waive it off early.

I know what you mean Roy is still an elusive target... those slapping flurries wont do anything Roy has more than enough power to get Joes attention and snuff any Flurry he tries to dig in on

Look at his fight against Johnson, gone are his reflexes, he used to be able to slip off the ropes.

Against Tarver, who is much slower than JC, Tarver got in quite effectively.

Jones fought harder punchers than Tarver and Johnson throughout his career, the problem was he was shot enough for those guys to hit him and shot enough for the punches to have maximum effect.
And you're underestimating Calzaghe's punch power.
I'll concede it doesn't look like he punches as hard as he used to (his left hand is finished, that's obvious), but you can't say he didn't hurt Lacy in their fight. Now I wouldn't expect him to hit Old Roy as much as he did Lacy... but he wouldn't need too. ;)
