Its Mayweather v Cotto on May 5th
-
Not sure on the aggressor, but I think I already know the winner.
Fair play to Floyd, he gets a lot of stick, lots from me too. But he does pick good fights, his last few opponents have all been decent fighters who have the potential to cause a suprise.
-
Re: Its Mayweather v Cotto on May 5th
I think it'll be an interesting fight to watch for the boxing fan. Its about as interesting a fight as you can get where the winner is obvious (or at least very very likely).
What tactics will each fighter employ?
Is there anyone out there who gives Cotto a shot?
-
Re: Its Mayweather v Cotto on May 5th
It's the best fight out there for Floyd, even though it's a bit late. I don't see Cotto winning this but it'll be good fight. Cotto can box, he's strong and has a good jab but it's not enough to beat Floyd. Mayweather takes a wide UD with a possibility of a late stoppage because of the sharp counter punches.

Cotto will be the aggressor, and Mayweather will use that against him all night long. I think it will be Mayweather 8-4, maybe 9-3.
-
The thing about cotto is that i love his style and boxing skills but his face bleeds easy and he takes alot of damage.
Hopefully his defense will improve in this bout AND his stamina!
-
Maybe cotto will try something different this time and not be so much of an aggressor like he did with pacman.
The weight is definately in his favor.
Pac must be kicking himself for not stepping up to 150.
Hopefully pac takes on a young hungry bradley.

Re: Its Mayweather v Cotto on May 5th
This is a very good fight especially at 154. A very small complaint...i wish it was 3-4 years ago when both were nearer their primes.
Still an excellent match that beats anything Manny P will do next (and thats coming from a Pac fan).
Cotto has to adopt the Castillio performance if hes going to beat Floyd , patient aggressiveness pushing floyd back using the jab , letting Floyd go back near the ropes then attack. Cotto simply cant stand off Floyd or he gets beat in a wide decision.
Looking forward to this fight already , any early news on their purses for the fight.

It's the second best fight out there for Floyd. Sergio was the best. Still, it's not a bad fight at all. Sure, it should have happened three years ago, but better late than never. Is the fight at 154? I imagine this will lead into a Sergio Martinez v. Floyd Mayweather fight next?
I don't give Cotto a shot. I like Floyd in the late rounds (10-12) stoppage by cuts or Floyd UD. Cotto got what he wanted though, which was another big $ fight. He's earned it. He'll face Canelo after Mayweather beats him and he'll retire a very wealthy man.
-
Re: Its Mayweather v Cotto on May 5th
This is great for boxing and a huge fight between 2 fighters i love to watch. Cotto will have a serious go early but Floyd will tie him in Knots by midway, suss him out and tear his face to shreds .. Cotto's hard as nails so i see Floyd winning late on by stoppage or by a massive points win.
Really looking forward to this one.
Just don't see any way or tactic that make Cotto win this. ;)

Re: Its Mayweather v Cotto on May 5th
WAR COTTO!!! Come on Miguel, take the 0!!!!
-
Re: Its Mayweather v Cotto on May 5th
Sure Mayweather probably wins this by a wide points margin, but STYLES make fights. Miguel Cotto is a much more complete fighter than what Floyd has faced since De la Hoya. Mosley had power and handspeed, no defense. Zab had no discipline, Ortiz couldn't box, JMM had no power. Miguel Cotto can box, he has power, good timing, decent defense, a solid chin, a warrior's heart, and he can switch up from orthodox to southpaw.
To me, this is a very dangerous fight for Floyd. Cotto is sneaky with his power and sneaky with his speed. He doesn't look quick, but he can catch you coming in and put a hurting on you. Miguel also doesn't care where the hell he hits you he just wants to do damage...he stopped Gianaluca Branco with a left hook to the shoulder!!!
If Cotto prepares to go 12, uses the jab effectively AND remembers to attack the body.....well we might just have ourselves a fight fellas!!!!
-
Re: Its Mayweather v Cotto on May 5th
It's a fight i have always wanted to see, i am not sure that a war torn Miguel Cotto can actually hit Floyd enough to win. I suspect that Floyd will find Cotto rather pedestrian and win a wide UD, Cotto has a punchers chance, but first he has to find the target!
-
Re: Its Mayweather v Cotto on May 5th
First off Lyle I love the new sig. :o;D
Secondly, its pretty late for this fight to be finally coming off. Would have been better at 140 I think. Cotto is a little long in the tooth now.
But, better late than pregnant.
-
Re: Its Mayweather v Cotto on May 5th
Nice matchup... no complaints from me on this one

Thanks, I enjoy it too, but I'm glad others appreciate it
Late but not too late...Cotto still has skills that could trouble Floyd, he still has power, he still has timing, he's still a big boy. Cotto is more in his prime than Oscar, Shane, and Zab were ALSO let's not forget that Floyd is getting older and perhaps slowing down.
It should be a great fight and whoever wins gets nothing but respect from me....I hope it's Cotto because Floyd is a smug little bastard (albeit a great boxer), but either way 100% respect from me. It's not a catchweight, it's a very legit very dangerous fight for either fighter. I love the matchup!!!
-
Re: Its Mayweather v Cotto on May 5th
I hate to say this only cause diane is a huge fan, but floyd even stepping up in weight (which pac forced him to drop) will have very little if any problems with cotto. This is however probably one of the better non pac match ups tho. Way way better than the riddiculous canelo idea. The worst part about this whole match up is the pre made excuses that are already there after floyd does win. After 24/7 and all that garbage 80% of fans who question the outcome will belive cotto is the saviour ...loss, rinse, repeat and we'll be back here in the blink of the eye trying to convince ourselves now _______ is the guy to beat him. Better than the nothing we were getting before this i guess
-
Cotto has to improve his stamina.
I can see a martinez fight in november for floyd.
Anyone think that floyd can ever be comfy at 154?

I don't think 154 will ever be a "natural" weight for him. He seems like a sterotypical "hardgainer" -- very low bodyfat, and a struggle to bulk up. Even if he quit training, I don't think he'd suddenly blow up. Look at Roger and Floyd Sr.
Honestly, I think he could still be making 140 fairly easily if he really wanted to.
I'd definitely like to see him vs. Martinez at 154 next though. That's a much more competitive fight than Pacquiao -- probably the biggest challenge out there (besides the same fight at 160).

Re: Its Mayweather v Cotto on May 5th
This is the fight I wanted, Cotto can fight from the outside and he has proper discipline to cope with Floyd. It's so nice to come on Saddo's and have a group of people talking some sense. I've been on Boxing Asylum and I'm sure Eastside would be the same, which are full of bating trolling rubbish with barley a good post among them.

Alot of people like cotto as well. Hes a good guy.
Is cotto going to stick with the same trainer this time round or is he going elsewhere?

I fall for it everytime too.
I know Floyd will win, but I start to think, maybe, just maybe he can do this or that and win.
We watch the fight and realise they are a class above.

He still has that power and he boxes more now, he doesn't go all wild anymore, though he does not attack the body as much.

This time though Cotto's with a top notch coach in Perdo Diaz. Mayweather should have the edge but I don't think itll be a walk in the park, especially because Mayweather doesnt have the power to really bother Cotto.

And that's gonna be a problem for Cotto. Two things a fighter has to do just to be competitive against Mayweather is work behind an effective jab and try to at least maintain some sort of body attack on him. Cotto has no chance if he strictly head hunts

Cotto's set in his ways. Cotto does what Cotto wants in the ring

Cotto beat Mosley with his jab, he did a great job with it. I think if Cotto can handle Judah's hand speed then he can do ok vs Floyd.
It should be a good fight, Cotto isn't in bad fights.

Re: Its Mayweather v Cotto on May 5th
:happy0931sb4:
Hell yes!! Good for Miguel. He deserves a big fight like this.
Do I think he can win, well duh, of course I do. I wouldn't be a fan if I didn't believe. I honestly think if he comes in with the right game plan, and executes it, he can win. My biggest worry would be his stamina in the late rounds. And if he loses, no shame in that, he would be losing to one of the best out there right now. Then his only two legitimate losses would be to the #1 and #2 guys in the world. ;D
Miguel should wear trunks and a robe that look like prison stripes. :woot22:

Re: Its Mayweather v Cotto on May 5th
Of course I'm a massive Cotto fan, and will be rooting for him to pull off the upset. "Rooting" might even be slightly understated. I'll probably be yelling my head off, much like everybody else I'll be watching the fight with.
And like Diane, I too feel Cotto can pull it off, with the right game plan. It helps that he got this new Cuban trainer. The guy did wonders with Cotto in preparation for the Margacheato rematch. He got Cotto back into his boxing ways, and put some speed and reflexes back into his game.
Having said all that... I also think Cotto would've matched up better with Pacquaio in a rematch of their first fight. In fact... I think Cotto would've likely pulled off the upset had he and Pacquaio fought again, now that Joe Santiago is no longer Cotto's trainer. But it's not Pacquaio Cotto is facing now... it's Mayweather. Cotto will have to have the perfect game plan, and execute it to a "T". But he's a warrior, and as someone very well put it.... he always gives us a good fight. So I'm excited and looking forward to it.
And good for Cotto. He does deserve the mega-fight after all these years.
:)

This is about 3 years too late. Still, it's probably the 2nd or 3rd best fight for PBF.

Thing is Cotto never really handled Judah's speed. Cotto punished and broke down Judah cuz is Judah. After 4 rounds he'll stop doing what's working for him. But whenever he decided to actually let his hands go he had success and would get the better of exchanges

Re: Its Mayweather v Cotto on May 5th
If this fight actually happens on May 5th, I like Cotto's chances at 154, i'm really surprised Mayweather would agree to this fight, but I guess he's legally obligated, so it should happen.

Cotto HAS improved his stamina, he didn't seem to tire at all in his last 3 fights, he slowed down in the mid rounds only to come on strong again from the 9th till the final bell

Re: Its Mayweather v Cotto on May 5th
My only worry is Miguel's onion skin it'll definitely tear otherwise I think Miguel can take Floyd's best shots. I just hope and pray the Cotto left hook to the body resurfaces on this fight:)
