Pacquiao vs Matthysse
It’s official for July I believe. Decent fight. I think that Pacquiao is too old at this point and too inactive. Sure Matthysse has come back from a long layoff too, but he is a bit less battle worn and at this age, I don’t think that Pacquiao will be able to take a punch that well.
-
Seems Pacquiao is thinking about having Buboy fat boy training him instead of Roach. That’s a shit idea if I ever heard one.
-
Re: Pacquiao vs Matthysse
This is going to be a shoot out, someone is going to get stopped.
This is an exciting fight and pleasently suprised.

Ah I heard that he had binned Roach but I thought I had dreamt it.
I'll watch it but I've not got much interest in it, certainly not a fight I'll be staying up until 6am to watch

Re: Pacquiao vs Matthysse
So Pacquiao sans Roach vs Matthysse......does this strike anyone else as a colossally stupid idea?
Matthysse is no longer a spring chicken but he's dangerous enough for Pacquiao at this point in his career. I mean yeah Matthysse got stopped by Postol who isn't the hardest puncher but still I'm of the opinion Pac should hang up the gloves he's got nothing left to prove and there's very few fights for him where I'm genuinely interested in the outcome...if Matthysse sparks him out cold I wouldn't be shocked by it I wouldn't be shocked if Pac sparks Matthysse either.
Are there any fights out there for Pacquiao that NON-Pacquiao fans would be interested or excited about seeing?

Re: Pacquiao vs Matthysse
Enjoy Pacman while you can. The first guy to win 4 world titles in the original weight divisions (fly, feather, light, and welterweight). A phenomenal achievement..... watching him batter much bigger guys was truly astonishing. He was the premier fighter in the sport for a while too. Never belittled opponents, never trash talked and always had a smile on his face.
One of the true greats ..... let's hope that it's not a fight to far for him.

No way.
Manny was irresistible over that period and Floyd got so intimidated by Pac Man that he did not fight him.

Re: Pacquiao vs Matthysse
Who could Pacquiao fight right now that would interest you @Master?
For me, it would have to be one of the Americans like Spence, Thurman, Garcia, or Porter.
I don't think a rematch vs Horn does much for me, it would probably be big again int he Pacific but meh it doesn't excite me. The fight vs Matthysse doesn't excite me either. I wonder if Pac sees a James Toney-esque fall off from not having Roach in his corner.
-
Re: Pacquiao vs Matthysse
The Matthysse fight is exciting.
Manny may not be at the level to beat the top welterweights. Horn is his level.
-
Re: Pacquiao vs Matthysse
Man I see Pac winning this with ease.

Matthysse looked spent last time. I think Pac still has enough to beat him.

Re: Pacquiao vs Matthysse
I think it would be better for pacman to retire although it has peaked my interest and I will watch it. It's always nice having a PAC fight anyone hear from my old friend @pacfan he was caught up in the unrest in the Philippines. Last I talked to him was right before the Horn fight
-
Re: Pacquiao vs Matthysse
Even though they're both semi-shot it's an exciting matchup, both looked poor last time, both obviously past it but could be a thriller, both could be floored, certainly hurt and each could flatten the other. Almost a bit of a sicko fight at this stage of their careers.

Re: Pacquiao vs Matthysse
Have come to appreciate Manny more. Always had the feeling Matthysse was being positioned with trinket in tow for bigger fight opponent role. Totally respect the man and love his style but he's taken his own damage over last few fights and frankly Manny has more room to fall when talking 'done'. I mean hell Manny is coming of a very arguable L. His timing and footwork still look enough to handle ever dangerous Matthysse. Besides..Kuala Lumpur ???.

Re: Pacquiao vs Matthysse
Pac is on a retirement, cash-out phase of his career. This fight does not help either of them. Pac is just done now.
-
Re: Pacquiao vs Matthysse
Anyone hear whom will air the fight
-
Re: Pacquiao vs Matthysse
I have no issues with this one. Both are past their best. Let them duel it out.

Saw mention of ESPN ppv version. Of course many already have ESPN ppv..it's called 3 channels on cable :p. Arum trying to scrape the marrow from the bone again. Not sure how big time difference will work out.
-
Re: Pacquiao vs Matthysse
I have given up on Pac. Great career but it's over. Bob Arum is still not done milking all he can from this once great champion.

Thanks strange I was searching and couldn't find TV schedule

Re: Pacquiao vs Matthysse
Manny finally cut ties with Roach ???. Hell is freezing over.
-
Re: Pacquiao vs Matthysse
I think that is very uncool of Pac to cut off Roach like that. Roach helped to mold him into the fighter he became and that deserves a little loyalty.
-
Re: Pacquiao vs Matthysse
He definitely blindsided him from what it sounds like. Has to be more to it.
-
Re: Pacquiao vs Matthysse
Sounds like a battle of the aging achilles heels. Last time out, Matthysse looks dismal against a young kid who carried big at the weight and used his jab... Till he pulled a ko out of his @$$ .. that many people questioned whether or not the kid was taking a dive. I've always been a big fan of Matthysse and maybe there was a slight drop off as he got used to his new trainer, shook ring rust etc. but I think Lucas was slowly losing his passion for the sport before the postol loss. His chins probably not what it was before either.
Pac has always looked a tad predictable to me but the beauty of his style was that roach taught him how to punch in between his opponents punches. His last time out he showed little of that though he maintained his in and out footwork. He managed to get caught by a slow sloppy billy-goating horn who look to just weather the storm and bull him around the ring.
If this fight ever materialized i always saw pac just being too fast for Lucas to time. Now, he's probably still faster than Lucas expects him to be but very linear and easier to time. Pac doesn't have his pop, but Lucas doesn't have his chin. I think Roach was the key for Manny and the Key for Lucas is how bad he wants to keep this belt and whether or not him finally getting the title has renewed his passion. Based strictly on the location, its already leaning toward Manny and Lucas needs a knockout.

Re: Pacquiao vs Matthysse
Manny dropping Roach is a sure fire sign he will pack up his gloves very soon. PAC Man is trying to maximise his last remaining big salaries and Roach will not teach Manny that he does not know already.

Teach, no... remind... well, that something different entirely. With as much time off as pac takes, there's a plenty of rust negligence and oversight that can happen. The question is can the the replacement spot the holes and patch em on the fly.
I also think Manny and roach had a little bit of a rift because roach thought manny should retired and didnt give him a shining review after the last fight. So maybe manny didnt want to pay such a big cut of his salary for anything less than total unwavering ass kissing.

I am not saying what Manny has done is right and you are correct Manny does need to be trained by someone who knows him and will not be a yes man.
-
Re: Pacquiao vs Matthysse
A case of who has more left in the tank. Pac can probably milk a few more paydays off a win, before running into trouble. Matthysse is just happy to be invited to the table at this stage. There are some variables tho, he will have been inactive for over a year by fight night, no Roach in the corner or training and surrounded by yes men etc. I still think Manny wins this wide.

Except the payday for Matthysse. Probably not even near a Money Team level but still.
He's the only one getting anything out of it.
-
Re: Pacquiao vs Matthysse
I thought this is an even fight considering how far both have slipped. Maybe Pac Man has more left but Matthysse has bombs and Manny has been flattened in the past.
-
Re: Pacquiao vs Matthysse
@pacfan r u coming around for this fight, we usually have our traditional manny meet up. I hope pacfan is well he was having issues with the Philippine government last fight

Re: Pacquiao vs Matthysse
If you would have told me 11 yrs ago that Manny would fall a month off the boxing board and still not have a network for a title fight I wouldn't believe it ;D. Has all the feel of espn+1 which means it'll tank. Part of me is beginning to think Matthysse can draw an old Manny into a firefight though.
-
Re: Pacquiao vs Matthysse
Pac wins this, probably easy.
-
Re: Pacquiao vs Matthysse
I think it will be on ESPN + too. I’m predicting Matthysse upset.
-
Re: Pacquiao vs Matthysse
Matisse looked a little bit drained last time out but I'm thinking he is going to knock out Pacquiao in about the fourth round

Manny Pacquiao-Lucas Matthyse title fight to be shown via live stream only
https://s.yimg.com/bt/api/res/1.2/Un...22f1ee2397f6a0
Boxing fans in the U.S. will need to rely on live-streaming if they want to watch Manny Pacquiao's return to the ring next week.
Pacquiao's July 14 fight vs. WBA welterweight champion Lucas Matthysse in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, will be shown exclusively on ESPN's new streaming service, ESPN+. The program is scheduled to begin at 9 p.m. ET.
The Pacquiao-Matthyse fight will stream immediately after ESPN finishes its broadcast of the Regis Prograis-Juan Jose Velasco title fight in New Orleans.
"I am very happy that all of my fans in America will have a chance to watch my next fight on ESPN+, and I am looking forward to putting on a show," Pacquiao said in a statement issued Saturday by Top Rank Media. "Matthysse is a great opponent. I am training with all of my heart because I want to be champion again."
Pacquiao (59-7-2, 38 KOs) has not fought since losing his WBO welterweight world championship to Jeff Horn in a controversial decision in July 2017. Matthyse (39-4, 36 KOs) won the WBA belt in January with an eighth-round knockout of Tewa Kiram.
