One and done: Tomato cans that had one great night
Not journeyman: Fighters who were gatekeepers, but a guy that loses handily...all the time.
Keith Mullings imo is one. Just took victory from Terry Norris and Left him punch drunk laying on the ropes . He went on to lose 4 of his next 5 fights retiring at 16-8--1
Nobuaki Hiranaka stopped Edwin Rosario in one. Retired next fight.
They never gave anyone trouble. One great fight and they were done

Good one. Poster child for "One and Done."
Re: One and done: Tomato cans that had one great night
'The Council Bluffs Butcher'
Ron Stander
Had 'one' quality win in his career. A shocking {KO 5} win over Earnie Shavers.

Santana lost 7 of his prevuious 10 before Norris and then melted
Backus was more of a celebrity as nephew of Basilio before he fought and beat Napoles then.....
Re: One and done: Tomato cans that had one great night
Does Hasim Rahman fit the description? Does beating Corrie Sanders or Monte Barrett mean anything? His draws against Tua and Toney seemed fights that Tua and Toney did just enough to give it away.
Oleg Maskev handled him twice.
Outside Lewis, Rahman didn't beat anyone of note
Re: One and done: Tomato cans that had one great night
Couldn't stand Hasim, but I don't think he fits the tomato can description.
To me a tomato can with one great night is someone who came from total obscurity to achieve one great fight, and then went away just as quickly. Douglas and Sanders fit that description more than Rahman. I would consider Hasim more of a journeyman level fighter.
Re: One and done: Tomato cans that had one great night
I hate Mullings for beating one of my favourite fighters. Norris was going to get a huge fight with Oscar, which he may have lost because he was shot by that time but at least he would have had a pay day.
Kirkland Lang beat Roberto Duran and then went MIA for a year.
Re: One and done: Tomato cans that had one great night
I though Mullings ran even with Marquez, think he took that fight on a week or two notice. @SlimTrae Hiranaka good call. That was as brutal a KO you'll see and thought he took some kind of damage off that and retired but not sure. Ironically you can put Morris East who beat him in the same category. Just a crazy story with him and his father right after that.
I have a hard time calling most guys tomato cans. Definitely would not label Sanders or Rahman one trick ponies though. They didn't just win one big but ran with others and contenders. The two get a pass alone on the war the put on ;D Say a Michael Bentt maybe though off injury. Richie Sandoval beating Jeff Chandler. Rolondo Pasqua toppling One of the best going in Humberto Gonzalez. Maybe a Daryl Pinckney KO'ing top Junior jones and then turning that into 101 pay days vs solid top comp.
Re: One and done: Tomato cans that had one great night
Agreed. it's a stretch to put Rahim on the list. Maybe I'll call him an over achiever, not a tomato can.
Rahmin's win over Lewis reminds me of a then unknown untested Coutrney Bouton that knocked out Angel Manfreddy.
Watching Angel sit against the bottom rope making a motion with his hand...blank stare on his face and listening to ESPNs Joe Tessitore holler "what a HUGE" upset!!!
I didn't expect Courtney to become a work class fighter. I felt he just had Manfreddy on an off night.
Same with Hasim...he didn't have Lennox number...he just caught Lennox slipping.
