As someone who can't stand Carl Froch...
Well, I avoided any kind of technology all day to avoid finding out the result of the fight so I could watch the ITV replay, and it was worth it. What a fight, not quite my FOTY but well up there, and like many have drawn comparisoms with the Bute-Andrade fight, and there were similarities except this one didn't have a corrupt ref ;D
Anyway, I made very well clear that I can't stand Froch, and would gladly delight in his defeat. However, he showed great heart and power to finish Taylor how he did, and the claim that he's beaten nobody cannot be thrown at him any more. He beat a guy with all the natural gifts that he can only dream of, and battled his way back into a fight that he had been boxed out of, and what a knockout! As much as I was on the edge of my seat pulling for Taylor, it can't be denied that it was an exciting fight & again referring to the Andrade fight, I can definitely relate to how you Froch fans must have felt.
As for Taylor, I have always been unconvinced by him when up against the best opposition, and thought he lost both times to B-Hop, Wright & Pavlik. However, the way he fought for the bulk of the fight last night was so classy & after so many years he finally won me over as a fan. If he could have just gone for Froch in the last 30 seconds of Round 3, he would be the WBC champ right now. Still, he looked so slick & was also unafraid to get involved with Froch that I can't hold it against him. His class in the post-fight interview shone through, he gave all credit to Froch with no qualifications & didn't try to blame a stoppage that some might have questioned. Some might see this as weakness, personally I see it as a strength of character. For the first time in his career, I find myself wanting to see him fight again.
I'm amazed at some of the hate going at both fighters on here, as well as other undeserving figures (Andrade & Kessler). These two guys gave us the fans a really good scrap and we should be glad to them for it. Personally, I would love to see a rematch & I think the fight definitely warrants it, although they might choose to have a fight in-between each. I'm hoping JT doesn't quit because I think he definitely still has a lot to offer. If Froch gets a chance at Calzaghe that would be huge, but otherwise the winner of Bute-Andrade II or a rematch with Taylor would be fantastic as well, and if Kessler comes along that too would be a great fight.
Re: As someone who can't stand Carl Froch...
good post mate and i totally agree ;)
pay no attention to the hate posts some guys get tooo pissed because they get a pick wrong ;)
hell i picked Taylor points at first then via KO win right at the last second.
still not sure if Carl won or Taylor lost if that makes sense. ???
Carl was down 4 rounds on two of the judges cards so if Taylor had have hung on 15 seconds he would have won.
but he didn't and Carl should get all the respect in the world for the win.
how long he can go on using his chin to block shots at this level is a different matter...but he brings alot to boxing and i congratulate him and Taylor for giving the fans a great fight 8)

Re: As someone who can't stand Carl Froch...
Taylor should have took a Knee in that last round and let the clock tick away;)
probably was a bit buzzed out to really know what was actually going on though i reckon.
Great fight and Both deserve respect for that 12 rounds!
Taylor was superb for most of the fight but Froch just kept coming forward and ground him down.
Agree that his hands are still way WAY too low but he'll never change and even if he tried will always revert back to that style.
Think Kessler would ruin him but also think Carl could do a number on pretty much anyone else in the division.
Pavlik v Froch is what i want too see sometime soon as well:cool:

Pavlik v Froch would be a classic imo. Agreed that Kessler would tear him a new one
Re: As someone who can't stand Carl Froch...
Absolutely spot on post that Jaz.....
I've been waitin till lunch to get on here and post about the fight again. I watched the fight for the second time last night on itv and was impressed alot by Taylor.
I think he was catchin Froch with some tremendous shots. All the guys out there questioning Taylors stamina, no way, he was still hittin Froch with some beautiful straight punches in 10 11 and 12. One thing for me is that Froch was, when he actually let go, backin Taylor up even on shots that were hittin gloves. I just think in the end the size and power of Froch really told. when he hurt him mid 12th round, that was pretty much one of the only solid shots he managed to catch Taylor with.
I think if Froch was a better boxer and more accurate with punches instead of always bein off balance and throwin wild he would have stopped Taylor with his power much earlier.
Froch also has some really bad footwork goin on to compliment his defense, lookin off balance alot. I'd like to think its possible with a better trainer Froch could polish up into somethin pretty special.
Re: As someone who can't stand Carl Froch...
Agree with jez and saddo, can't stand him but that was a legitimate win and shows he belongs at world level. I cracked and checked the results before watching it, but it was a closer fight going into the 12th than what I'd read online as Taylor threw very little in the second half, even if what he was throwing was lannding well, the guy has shocking stamina.
He should target Bute IMO as it's possible that he could be slowed down by consistent pressurre, but don't see him doing well against Kess, and would be humiliated by Hopkins.
Re: As someone who can't stand Carl Froch...
Watching Him Nature over Nuture comes to mind. His Technique is Terrible no Balance but He never loses His Bottle or belief a Lesson for us all. Well done Carl Froch Loved it ;D
