Another Heavyweight divison!?
Do we really want this?
Fury would obviously be in the Super heavyweight divison..who else would join him..?

Re: Another Heavyweight divison!?
Heavyweights are getting bigger maybe not better.
Ali and the other old time greats would struggle with the size of the better coordinating big heavyweights of early 2000's.
Re: Another Heavyweight divison!?
Boxers are bigger in the heavyweight division these days and you have people like Bellew talking about campaigning and having ambitions of winning world titles but then openly admitting that they want nothing at all to do with the big heavies.
The problem is that the talent pool is so poor that splitting it up further would leave you with 2 absolutely shite divisions instead of one poor division.
It aint going to happen
Re: Another Heavyweight divison!?
Isn’t it called Cruiserweight

Well when they create the super heavyweight division there will obviously be cruiserweights who are just that little bit to small to move up to heavyweight which is when the super cruiserweight division comes in.
Re: Another Heavyweight divison!?
Will Rio Ferdinand have his own celebrity super crusierweight divison?

He is probably rich enough to create his own division and maybe that will be where David Haye moves next.
Re: Another Heavyweight divison!?
There should be less divisions not more! It thins out the talent and enables fighters to avoid tough fights. There should be around 12 weight classes not the 17 we currently have at the moment.

Seems this comes up every few years and disappears, rightfully so. Quality over quantity and we don't need another division for sure. Great way for wbc to make more coin though :-X. Anyone remember when Bobby Czyz won the inaugural super cruiserweight title? Not so much and that division worked out greeeat. Max Kellerman was the first guy I recall harping on need for 'super' heavyweight division. About the time guys like Grant, McCline and Lance Whitaker were coming up ;D.
Re: Another Heavyweight divison!?
in 2002 on thhis forum I called for a SuperHeavy division, and every year since then been callin for same FFS
Re: Another Heavyweight divison!?
I think everything below featherweight should be scrapped and I wouldn’t mind if they scrapped all the light/junior/super divisions between the real weight classes.

You are entitled to your opinion. No matter how ridiculous and stupid it is. I am surprised that you are a boxing forum with that particular opinion. Do you know how many great fighters and fights have occurred below the featherweight division?
Re: Another Heavyweight divison!?
Okay I’d keep bantamweight but scrap everything below that. I find flyweight and minimumweight so uninteresting (seriously what grown man weighs 105lbs) I think Boxing could do with a shake up (it won’t happen) but less divisions and less belts would improve the sport immensely and nobody can deny that. It’s no secret that the best fighters usually fight from 140-154 so imagine if we only had 147! All that talent would be in one place.

Fair point about too many titles and divisions.
However there are some exceptional boxers and contests at the lower weights. I would rather watch that than 2 unhealthy and unconditioned heavyweights fight any day.

Honestly all you would need to do is bring in same day weigh-ins and most of those weight divisions below lightweight would be abolished.

Same day weigh in would not affect the lower weights more than higher weights.
The skill level and entertainment at the lower weights are unappreciated by even most hardcore boxing fans. Never mind you.

People confuse activity for skill. I saw that flyweight card on HBO and the skill level really wasn’t that high and every time the referee got close and dwarfed them I kind of lost interest. At the moment the best fighters in the sport are at light-heavyweight and cruiserweight in my opinion.

You are sizist and at the moment you could be right.
Re: Another Heavyweight divison!?
I think most people are sizist which is why those smaller divisions don’t do big business. The two most recognisable people in Boxing history (arguably sports history) are both Heavyweight boxers (Tyson and Ali)
Re: Another Heavyweight divison!?
Don't need a Super-Heavy division. Less weight divisions would be a good start tho. 108 and 105 could go. 115 even tho it's stacked at the moment. 122, 130, 140, 154 & 168 could all disappear.
