punching with weights bar
I'm talking about holding a bar in both hands while standing up and thrusting it forwards with your arms at some speed, I've seen it done on tv by some of the amateur guys going to the olympics, and also heard from a guy into eastern martial arts that it's a done exercise for some of them too.
Looks like a recipe for a long lay-off to me, but do any of you guys do it and what are the benefits? if the weight is increased very gradually and carefully over time do you build up a resistance to injury from this sort of motion?

It's a variation of the vertical row I believe.
The challenge is not only in thrusting the bar forward, but also maintaining the bars height from th ground returning it slowly to the chest.
Done slowly it builds the pecs, done with speed it develops the fast twitch muscles.
