Early 90s George Foreman vs. 1997 David Tua.
How would comeback Foreman do against a prime Tua? It would have been a fun fight between 2 hard-punching, granite-chinned HWs.
Re: Early 90s George Foreman vs. 1997 David Tua.
same as Foreman/Cooney, early Tua bombs, Rds 1 & 2, tho George usually got em in 2, but Tua may've taken 4, but Big George figurs out the timing of those big hooks and really decapitates Tua with massive uppercut/hook type punches
Re: Early 90s George Foreman vs. 1997 David Tua.
Foreman got into wars when he was old and took some beatings. George was durable but a young Tua would be too busy and active. Think it goes to points is bloody battle.
Re: Early 90s George Foreman vs. 1997 David Tua.
Tua was best when he was around 218-225 and Duva was in his corner. He was faster than most people remembered him and had good stamina for a guy that swung that big. He still relied a little bit too much on the left hook and would have to wing through george's arms and unconventional defense to land . If there's anything George remembers its Zaire and how letting a big puncher wear himself down, steals his heart. Foreman had a better ring iq than tua, so I see him making adjustments and starting to use his jab to joust Tua as the fight goes on. Tua goes down a few times off balance from leaping in and getting stiff armed. George looks like hes trouble (but probably isn't) once or twice early before he adjusts and starts working smarter rather than harder.
Big George by decision as Tua's frustrations about not getting inside late in the fight get the better of him and have him resetting on the outside because hes slowed down and eaten a few big shots in range. Best shot at big George is to take his eyes first, and Tua does have the range or style for it. Never use a Sledgehammer when a whip will do.

I’m leaning towards the guy with a big punch and ability to take punishment, these factors would have been so telling that the fight may as well have never happened.

Nice take on it. Foreman likes the Tua/Frazier/Quawi come forward fighters because he had more trouble with movers. Still think you are wrong, Tua had a good enough chin.
Re: Early 90s George Foreman vs. 1997 David Tua.
90's Foreman was calm cool and collected and with respect to Tua whos run at top was actually pretty short at Ike loss, seldom did we see that fit firestorm after that. I can see Foremans telephone pole jab and that thing he did where he'd close in and be able to square a short frontal guy up inside with cross guard and those subtle short pushes on the shoulders. Can easily see Tua on his heels and looking to reset more often. Foremans problems in comeback came from hard mobile fast jabbers from Holyfield and Stewart to even a Shultz and Tua is not that. Guess what I'm saying is that even 90's Foreman out crafts and out boxes an always dangerous but free swinger who could be found down center. Body shot bludgeoning big for Foreman also.

You know George would have avoided any serious and dangerous fight and not gone in the ring with Tua.

Tua on points.
George was way too old & slow.
His only chance of victory would have been by KO & no-one is knocking out Tua.

Just take the air out of the hypothetical balloon why don't ya ;D. Had Tua pulled off a mega win and brought in the money I think George would have found his way to him. Probably why he was barking for Tyson at every camera and mic all that time eh.

Foreman would win it's just a matter if it was by KO/TKO or on points.....Foreman would hammer him though
Re: Early 90s George Foreman vs. 1997 David Tua.
Tua was about the same size as Frazier?

Tua was a little shorter and had a 3" shorter reach.

If a peak Ike and Lennox Lewis couldn't stop Tua neither would an old Foreman.

Well #1 Ike is the stuff of legend because nobody knows how good he could have been or if he had hit his peak #2 Lennox kept Tua at bay and boxed him and Tua did pretty much nothing that entire fight #3 Monte Barrett hit Tua and knocked him down granted it was later on in his career, Felix Savon KO'd Tua in like a minute so it wouldn't have been impossible, improbable but not impossible. I just think an older Foreman lulled a lot of guys into believing he was just a sweet old guy who didn't want to hurt anyone....Evander Holyfield got woke up by George, Michael Moorer got put down by him...I think Tua would have been naive, let himself get tagged and if you let Foreman tag you you're not lasting 12, sorry not happening.
