Too Much Credit For Floyd??
OK, I've analyzed the fight for over a week now and heard people argue that Oscar should have gotten a draw or he should have won cause he's the champ and he was the one applying pressure etc., etc.... I could go on all day with all I've heard.
Now while It's no secret that I'm not a fan of Floyd, I watch fights with a non biased eye and there is no way I saw Oscar winning. DLH was wild most of the fight throwing amateurish combos everytime he thought he had Floyd pinned. Floyd has to credit for his defence but it's not as difficult to defend against a guy who's throwing punches without any rythm.
People have to understand that Oscar had only 1 fight in the three years leading up to the fight with Floyd and that was a punching bag named Mayorga. That's doesn't help anyone. Oscar looked in great shape and didn't tire as badly as usual but he just flurried and Floyd would land his shots while he was resting.
Floyd knew what he was getting with Oscar and with the money that came with it, it was a no brainer fighting him, but it's like I said all along, that fight was extremely overhyped and Mayweather did not take the best fight out there.
Now I know everyone is going to argue that no one would bring in as much money as Oscar and that's true but we're trying to figure out who the best is and not who the richest is aren't we?. I mean, we are boxing fans right?
P.S.- Floyd still can't handle the tough questions. When Merchant asked him what happened to the massacre we were promised, Floyd said something like "I can't ever please you can I?"
It's pretty simple though, don't talk it if you can't walk it.
Re: Too Much Credit For Floyd??
Listen man the fight is done and over with now get over it. No need to get on here and discredit anyone Floyd beat Oscar and actually made him look badly in my opinion you said yourself he made him look like an amateur. Bottom line floyd is 38-0 has won titles in 5 different weight divisions. Say what you want to say about the man but thats damn good just because you dont like a person( which you have no reason not to like somebody you dont even know anyway) don't mean you need to discredit his accomplishments Floyd is going to be floyd and fight like floyd defensive fighter who counters most of the time with 1 shots he sticks to his game plan and does his job thats Why he is 38-0 duh. I mean of course you want to see him go out there and slug it out against bigger and stronger fighters which would be dumb for him to do to try to please people like you therefore he wouldnt be 38-0. He is a great fighter problay the best we have seen in the last 10 years maybe more because he dominates fights DEFENSIVLY not offensivly so of course hes not going to through a million punches and look like an asshole lol
Re: Too Much Credit For Floyd??
only one lost will vanish floyd, pretty simple he has to stay undefeated by any means possible. if he gets one lost or even a draw. his credential is pretty much finish. floyd has no room for a lost it will ruin him, the other p4p'ders can afford a lost but not floyd all the talking he does and the running in the ring if he loses the whole world will jump on his ass while his down and step on his neck, thats how bad floyd will be ruin with one lost...oscar could of should of won but he prove again why he never got the biggest win in his career.
I agree the fight was overhype BOTH fighters are two of the BIGGEST let down in boxing.

First of all, it's a loss, not a lost.
Second, name a fight other than the Baldomir fight when he has spent the whole fight on the move. The "Floyd just runs" argument has always been the dumbest argument that people make on this board, I thought people would finally stop making it after last weekend.
Re: Too Much Credit For Floyd??
Julius Rain What in the hell are you talking about??? lol 1 lost will ruin him? are you an idiot he is a hall of fame fighter lol you cant take away the fact the man has 38 wins and won titles at 5 different weight classes 1 lost will not ruin him lol at all you sound silly. Floyd is naturally 130 pounds and he doesn't run around the ring like dude said he did it against baldimor which he outboxed easily and of course he would do it against delahoya a flat footed fighter duh lol what do you expect a man who is outweighed and just naturally smaller to fight toe to toe with the slower stronger man lol you must be crazy and know nothing about boxing. Floyd fought the perfect fight whooped delahoya a** in the middle of the ring when delahoya got him against the ropes tie up or slip those wild amateur punches oscar were throwing it was simple science realize that and get over it Oscar was never on the level of mayweather and never will be. To stiff and just doesn't have the heart He was given wins he didn't deserve throughout his career and basically was just an average fight with alot of fame and popularity. Oh yea and if you actually watch the fight u will see floyd did fight him toe to toe when the option was avalible and he popped oscar with some shots that backed oscar up lol none of oscar punches ever backed floyd up
Re: Too Much Credit For Floyd??
Floyd deserves all the credit anyone and everyone should put upon him.
I went for Oscar by UD before the fight and what i saw was a fighter who simply
outsmarted his more credentialed opponent, Floyd had a game plan that was obvious
to all except Oscar! Get him into the later rounds and finish strongly.
Oscar did well but wasn't good enough on the night and considering the advantages he had
over Floyd pre-fight this was an exceptional performance.
If you don't like Floyd personally that's fine but no one can doubt his ability in the ring against Oscar on May 5th.
It will take an extraordinary effort by Cotto, Margo, Hatton or anyone else for that matter to beat him.
I wasn't convinced myself by Floyd before May 5th, I am now!
Re: Too Much Credit For Floyd??
Too much credit? It's a 2-way street. I don't feel he gets enough credit. That's just how it goes.

Very true about De la hoya's long lay offs between fights hurting him, I feel the long lay offs hurt him more than Floyd style, the fight was there for Oscar to win.
Re: Too Much Credit For Floyd??
untill PBF looses people will say he never fought anybody good. thats the price you pay when your on top.
Re: Too Much Credit For Floyd??
Actually Oscar was a great opponent against him. Before this fight I had 2 people that could beat Floyd:
1) Oscar De La Hoya
2) Sugar Shane Mosley
1) already beat him but 2 of the judges didn't see it this way.
2) would beat him if they fight within a year ( an older Mosley might not be the same Mosley as the one we see now).
And for those Margarito lovers, he wouldn't do crap against Floyd! I hate to say it but it's unfortunately true. Margarito is a good fighter but he is not at that level yet. I would love to see him kick Floyd's ass though but that's just a dream. :(
You mentioned in your post that Oscar had a lot of inactivity. This just shows you what a great boxer/fighter he is. He's no longer in his prime yet he still showed us he can compete with a very good fighter (Floyd). Whoever thinks otherwise is dumb and very biased, we know he did really well against Floyd (not the pound for pound in my eyes). Emmanuel Steward agrees with me as well.
And yes that was great when Merchant asked him about the masacre...LOL. Even if Oscar was drunk, Floyd wouldn't be able to KO him.
Re: Too Much Credit For Floyd??
I disagree with your Margarito comment. Floyd ran from that fight for a reason. Floyd doesn't need to lose a fight to gain more respect, he just needs to fight someone that will give him a challenge. Floyd knows exactly what he's getting into when he walks in the ring which is fine...every fighter should. But he has never unified a division, he picks the champ he wants to fight, wins, then leaves the weight class. I'll give pbf all the credit in the world if he fights the winner of Margarito/Williams.

Why should he have fought Margarito at that point??
What has Margarito done at that point to earn a fight against Floyd?
Baldomir had the green strap. Something VERY lucrative to Floyd. We all know he collects them.
But what would his incentive be to fight Margarito then?
To silence all the people who think Margarito is something that he isn't?
Margarito! I am really starting to hate even the sound of that name.
Every time someone mentions Floyd, it's always Margarito!
No matter what he does, it's always, "But he didn't beat Margarito!"
Gawdammit, now I know how Jan Brady feels.

I know but do you really think Margarito would do better than Oscar? And give me a better argument besides " He has better stamina ". I like Margarito, by the way, I just don't think he can beat a De La Hoya, Mosley, Mayweather Jr, etc...
