End results of a broken nose in boxing?
I'm about to start training and sparring, and hope to eventually go in a few local amateur fights. We have to wear headgear, but I don't see how headgear will keep you from getting a broken nose in any way, that part of your face isn't covered.
I'm curious to find out- if you have gotten your nose broken in boxing, is there a reasonable chance of it healing so that it doesn't look abnormal at all? Is it bone or cartilage that gets broken in most cases?
Where I work, 2 of the girls in the office have had broken noses from sports injuries. They have "bumps" about 1/2 way down the tip of their noses in the middle. Their noses are wider there then in the other part of the length of their nose. Not glaringly obvious, but if you look you can see it. I don't want to end up like that from boxing.
I wonder if this is a typical or unusual result of a broken nose that would require surgery to get it back to looking normal again afterwards.
Re: End results of a broken nose in boxing?
Any mod's to stick this into ask the trainer?
Peace

Broken noses, bleeding noses, and busted noses are PART of the sport. When you fight inside the ropes, your signing an invisible contract that your nose will get busted up, temporarily or permanently. It's a hard and rough sport, if it were easy, everybody would be or could be doing it. Some people's noses break easy, some only bust up but never seem to break, and rare others, like Oscar de la Hoya have no traces of being affected at all. Noses weren't made to take punches.
If you don't want any part of that, don't fight. But if you like to learn and love to spar, buy a special headguard that protects the nose, "Winning" company makes them, but at a hefty price of 300 a pop. AC Slater, Mario Lopez keeps his good looks and spars with James Toney and Shane Mosley USING the Winning Headgear to keep his "pretty" looks intact. BUT you have to compete in the Amatuers with no nose protection.
But if you want your nose to be pretty and want to become a boxer.... hang 'em up. ;)

Just fight a righty then a southpaw, righty southpaw...
That way your nose gets broken back and forth and ends up straight!

Awghhh!!! Poor noses! haha They'll heal. My bud's crooked too.
If it's BAD, I mean, REALLY AbNoRmal structure nose... then I'll get surgery.
Who Wouldn't?! haha I'm talking elephant man hahaha. But it probably wont' be that bad, something' I'd laugh at. As my friend once told me "Boxers aren't lookers." ;D
Re: End results of a broken nose in boxing?
Broken my nose 3 times...Notable difference from its original state, but i feel it looks better!!!! one nasty side effect occurs when the septum of the nose becomes deviated, becomes a struggle to breath in humid conditions and buildup is painful
Re: End results of a broken nose in boxing?
yeah - at least a blood nose is a part of the sport.
I'm lucky I have a biggish, fairly flexible nose, with a narrow septum so when It has been broken it has been a small break.
It has changed the alignment of my nose but similar to the girls you work with it's not that noticeable.
I actually like the fact that my nose takes some punishment because I'd prefer that to a larger impact on my brain.
One ear, nose and throat specialist offered to give me a nose job if I quit boxing but I declined.
If you love boxing a small bump on your nose is a small price to pay - even for me as a girl - and I think guys can get away with a few more imperfections because the rugged sportsman look can be attractive to women.
It hurt - the only time I really truly lost my temper was when getting my nose broken in training (stupid really because I had no hope of being physically capable of killing the guy who did it otherwise it wouldn't have happened in the first place) - but for me at least it was a short lived sharp pain followed by a dull pain which was easy to bear.

Re: End results of a broken nose in boxing?
I had my Septum removed, what a difference, My mate had his removed in prison, next week he lost a finger in the woodworking depot. The Guvnor of the prison had him in his office for questioning they thought he was trying to escape bit by bit.

If you're that concerned. You probably shouldn't be boxing.
And are you F****** kidding me? Mario Lopez spars with James Toney. No wonder he wasn't ready for Peter. lol
That dancing cake boy could not, and would not last two rounds sparring with me, and I'm no James Toney.

Haha if your so sure he wouldnt last two rounds make your way to wild card gym in hollywood and ask to spar him. Youll have to convince the coaches there you have enough skill to be in the ring with him of course. He spars anyone. Unless your a decent pro hes gonna whop your ass.
Re: End results of a broken nose in boxing?
easy Mario. :D that post is 3 1/2 years old.
Re: End results of a broken nose in boxing?
Recently broke my nose, doesn't hurt so much at the time until after when it starts to ache. Still waiting for it to heal but I've had a fight while it's been broken, bad idea on my part. I still look handsome however.
