Strength Training without gaining weight.
Tried a search but couldnt find what i was looking for.
Recently I have joined a boxing gym. After going a few times the gym have decided they want to put me in a fight in about 5 months. Anyway, the gym have decided that light welter will be my fighting weight, and they have asked me to get to 66kg ( currently weigh 74ish).
Losing weight should be a doddle. but, i am wondering if anyone can give me some ideas for strength training without gaining too much muscle?
I would ask my coaches but I train in japan and my Japanese isnt good enough to pick up the schedule in detail ,and i also want to hear ideas from other fighters/ trainers.
A quick note, i have fairly powerful/large thighs so I am looking for upper body ideas mainly.

Small world - I trained in Japan for a year myself - Osaka. I fought in Tokyo at 54 kg which was just lucky because they wanted me to go down to 52 kg but the girl I was matched with wanted to fight me at 54 kg. Turns out there is now way physically i could ever reach 52 kg without doing myself serious damage. Fighting at 54 kg is borderline as it is.
One of the Japanese guys in the gym was naturally stockier than the rest and he ended up in hospital attached to a drip because he nearly killed himself making weight.
If you are from a non-Japanese family background I'd be careful to make sure that the weight they ask you to get down to is still healthy.
As for strength training I won't have the best expertise on the subject but I normally go for anything I want in low weight, high reps and include endurance cardio sessions at least once a week.

Small world indeed, I am in Osaka too. I can make 66kg easily, but if they ask me to fight at lightweight that would be pushing it a bit!

Muscle is heavier than fat so if you are gaining weight that isn't necessarily a bad thing, however if you are having problems in building muscle mass or performing your boxing skills to the very best of your ability then perhaps it is not a physical issue but a psychological one?
There may be other issues going on in your life which you don't attribute to this problem or aren't even aware of. Have you considered hypnotherapy? It has helped many sport performers (event Tiger Woods admitted to using this method, plus many other sport personalities).
There are lots of sites offering MP3s, recordings and personal sessions so I would recommend that you check some of them out (if you are interested in considering this approach).
