So Wilder wants different testing to fight Povetkin
Hmmmm. Tricky bastard. Take a cheery picked moral high ground to duck a fight. Use the general desire of most fans to have better testing in order to escape. On the surface it may appear that he's doing the same thing Floyd did with Manny but its not in the same park.

WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder (34-0, 33KOs) is still on course to defend his world title for the second time in September. More than likely his upcoming fight will be a voluntary defense.
The World Boxing Council will issue an order in October - directing Wilder's handlers to begin negotiations for a mandatory defense against Alexander Povetkin (29-1, 21KOs) of Russia.
There is a good possibility that Wilder-Povetkin will head to a purse bid. Povetkin's promoter, Andrei Ryabinsky, is one of the few people who are capable of out-bidding Wilder's powerful manager/adviser, Al Haymon.
Regardless of the setting, Wilder will demand a very strict drug testing protocol for the fight. In a recent interview, Wilder accused Povetkin of taking performance enhancing drugs .
"When you are dealing with these others countries, some drugs are legal in these other countries and sometimes they know how to take things out [of a fighter's system to pass a drug test]. The drug testing will be a very big deal for me. I'm a clean fighter. I do everything by the books. I expect my opponent to do the same. It's a shame that we still have people in the sport who try to cheat their way to the top," Wilder told BoxingScene.com.
"People can really get hurt. We are in a business where a head is not supposed to get hit in the first place, but then people enhance their bodies to go along and do more things just to get a win or get on top. How you can live with yourself knowing that you're a cheater or took a needle and shot something in your ass or took something. How can you live with yourself and say 'I am the champ' but you took something. I wouldn't live with myself if I cheated or tampered with my body."
Re: So Wilder wants different testing to fight Povetkin
This kind of discussion came up a lot because of Floyd over the years, but I'll reiterate the fact that I am 100% supportive of guys demanding extra testing.
At the end of the day, in the game of boxing a fighter is ultimately responsible for his own safety. The commission is supposed to look out for fighter safety, but history shows they've often done a piss-poor job at doing so. We don't know 100% who's using PEDs and who isn't, but what we do know is that the standard drug testing they use has a history of being COMPLETELY USELESS to any drug user with half a brain. Hell, even Mike Tyson admittedly cheated the drug tests because he was a cocaine addict. We've had Tommy Morrison come forward and admit he was using steroids for most of his career, yet was never caught. We've had guys like Evander Holyfield, Shane Mosley, Gamboa, ect piss clean every fight out, but the FBI found their names on receipts when they busted their steroid labs. Hell, look at what Lance Armstrong managed to do.
Bottom line: if you're a CLEAN fighter, and you have any pull or leverage whatsoever, you should be demanding Olympic-style drug testing. I don't think it's cowardly or dishonourable in any way to demand that your opponent follow the rules of boxing and not use PEDs.

HAHA...turnabout is fair play Povetkin wanted different testing in the Wlad fight. Can't see Povetkin flinching at this, given that whole deal

Yeah and if that does not work look for Wilder to ask for a catchweight or rehydration clause.

;D that would be hilarious.. Just to see everyone else like :confused::confused:

Wilder will fight Povetkin and I am sure he is putting up barriers to get extra payment as Wlad got.

Yup. Why would it matter if you're not using anything illegal? Both guys would go through the same testing, so it's not a benefit or hindrance to either guy.
Just take the test. All you have to do is piss in a cup and give a little blood. We've all given blood at some time, it's ridiculous to believe that this would in some way hurt a world class professional athlete.
Re: So Wilder wants different testing to fight Povetkin
If your clean then take the damn test. So many fighters have slipped through the cracks over the years I think it should be mandatory in all championship bouts. If they say no then obviously they have something to hide.
Re: So Wilder wants different testing to fight Povetkin
This is a tough fight for Wilder & he knows it so this is a reflection of his concerns going into this fight and could even be interpreted as looking for a way out. Testing was what kept Manny and Floyd part for so long afterall.
He was surprisingly bad vs Molina whilst Povetkin has been surprisingly explosive in his last few fights. He doesn’t look the sluggish fighter who once laboured against Huck anymore. Physically he looks much improved and he is the only fighter to face Wvlad in the last decade and actually go out there and try to win.
Should Povetkin take it to Wilder in the same way the American seems unable to retain his composure on the evidence of his last fight and the shots that a slow plodding Molina caught him with would have a much larger affect if it were Povetkin landing them. Ofcourse Wilder could get lucky and catch Povetkin on the way in but I have the suspicion he will try to box the same way he did in winning the title vs Stivern and keep it long. Problem with that is he doesn’t seem comfortable and looks stuck between styles in his last couple of fights. It doesn’t come naturally and Povtetkin will be without doubt the best fighter he has ever faced so he shouldn’t be boxing in a manner that he isn’t use to or particularly good at in all honesty.
Povetkin will be looking to get into position to land that overhand right and not allow Wilder the room to get off those crude swings. Intriguing fight if and when it happens.

If a fight doesn't get made because a guy won't take the drug tests, I blame THAT guy.
Even in the case of Floyd/Pac, Arum came forward all these years later and admitted they were wrong to deny the drug testing, and only did so because they were ignorant.
I don't get it as looking for a way out. He's not asking for a dumb catch weight or demanding an unfair amount of the proceeds or trying to price himself out of the fight, he's simply advocating him and his opponent go through additional drug testing to ensure it's fought on a level playing field. I still don't get why people look at that as a bitch move.
Re: So Wilder wants different testing to fight Povetkin
I personally don't think Povetkin is using any PED 's , I was reading an article by is new advisor Lance Armstrong and he says he is clean but cant take the test as he s afraid of needles.
Maybe we should ask Peter Fury ?
Re: So Wilder wants different testing to fight Povetkin
;D I could see this coming Wilder does not fancy facing Povetikin, it goes to purse bids Wilders
in Povetikins back yard. Pov will win this one can't see testing has anything to do with it, simple
Wilder does not fancy his chances.
