~BRUTAL! FIGHT~ Robert Quiroga vs. Akeem Anifowoshe FOTY 1991 (Video)
We're not really supposse to do this on the Main Board BUT I have to post this fight up. It is one of the MOST brutal! fights I have ever seen (I've only seen it once) in my life. It took place in 1991 between 2 undefeated fighters.
Robert 'Pikin' Quiroga and Akeem 'Kid Akeem' Anifowoshe as they met for Quirogas IBF Super Flyweight title in San Antonio, Texas....
I strongly RECOMMEND you watch this fight. I don't think a single second goes by in this fight where a punch is not thrown and where your not cringing and tightening your fists.....
Enjoy!!!

CC#70 NC, yeah! man! you gotta watch the whoe thing man!
It's a give and take fight...
You throw 1 I'll throw 2, I throw 2 you throw 3..... Just back and forth action....
What you don't see in this video is when sadly Akeem falls after the fight and is rushed to the hospital to remove a blood clot in his brain. :( He died a few years later... RIP.

Robert Quiroga was a warrior.. passed away a few years back , a victum of gang violance
Re: ~BRUTAL! FIGHT~ Robert Quiroga vs. Akeem Anifowoshe FOTY 1991 (Video)
I cover this in my book. It was one of the most savage fights I have ever seen. When the kid collapsed at the end, it was chilling. But when the crowd chanted "DOA, DOA" as the carried him out on a stretcher with his wife sobbing, that was the dark side of boxing showingits horrible face. Thosand thanks for the clip. Pikin Quiroga was killed by a biker.

Wow, that was one of the best fights I've ever seen! Quiroga was definately scrappy, getting inside, and the lead right. He did some great work when he had Kid Akeem on the ropes. Theres no way I can score that fight I would have to watch it again in slow motion. Thats crazy he died, from this footage he looks ok at the end of the fight. It cuts off pretty quick what were the scores? I know Quiroga won.Maybe he was just going on adrenaline because that last round was crazy. So many rounds were back and forth, I think the 8th round was my favorite.

That lead right was a HUGE + for his scoring it was landing big thats why I thik the judges were giving him the rounds on harder maybe slightly cleaner punches.

Akeem had the height & reach to outbox Robert but Robert managed to gutted out and get inside to work from there and Akeem IMO just said fwock! the boxing let's just trade and see whos got it more.

Oh I thought he died 3 months later. RIP both fighters that was a great show. That was a clean but brutal fight...only saw a few low blows..not too many rabbit punches.Thats crappy that the crowd acted like that if they were chanting DOA...those arent boxing fans..bunch of A-holes.

Thats what were talking about the other day on a thread here when someone posted that people started throwing beer and stuff at Pac at the Solis fight (oddly enough it was also in Texas ??? ) but yeah! at times th human race can be animal like and their behavior is sometimes worst cause eventhough we know it's wrong we still go on about it. :(

He died in Nigeria several years later under strange circumstances. And there was no "ifs" about it, that''s what the fans did, just like when they spit on Jonny Owens as he was being carried out. Anyone who wants to know anything about The Kid, mI'll be glas to elaborate since I have done quite a bit of research and saw many of his fights live and up close in Las Vegas. "Pikin" Quiroga was murdered a few years later allegedly by a Bandido Biker. He was one of boxing true gentlemen and adored by his fans. The entire affair was a tragedy worthy of a screen play (hint hint).
