Did the Rabbit punches do McCclellan in?

So many blatant rabbit punches, atleast 25 or 30 really hard ones thru the fight, you have to wonder if that's what contributed to his blindness. Ref should have stopped that. McClellan's corner should have really protested. I had never seen this until today believe it or not, only heard about it. Feeling upset now to see Gerald slump in his corner like that. Making faces, he KNEW something was wrong. This is what makes me dislike boxing sometimes. I know its part of the game. But God, the heartache. And then this:

I've read a lot about this, and i'd say no way did rabbit punches have that effect. From everything I've read, Mcclellan might well have been having a few probs before hand. Love the G-Man, one of my fav fighters.

Julian Jackson caused some damage in their first fight, he was smashing him to bit for 3 rounds until the head butt. After the fight in interview he said he had a headache and wanted to sleep.

this is a gay thread
i once saw a vid blaming it on a head butt, yes it was a head butt, nothing to do with all the power shots to the head
it was a cracking fight between 2 world class fighters, benn won fairly and deserved to win, its such a pitty that there was such a tragic end
Re: Did the Rabbit punches do McCclellan in?
Yeah I doubt it, as far as I would gather rabbit punches are more dangerous over the long run and are illegal more due to the fact that they are almost always thrown when the fighters are tied up. Considering the onset of McClellan's brain damage after the fight and prior problems you have to think it was just a matter of time before it happened, sadly. What gets me more about watching that fight is that Benn was basically held up and pushed back into the ring by some members of his camp(I imagine?), he could've very well been stopped in the first round without outside help imo.

you ignorant pratt...do you know what these people go thru when they spar...its the many 100's of rounds of tough sparring that caused McClellen to suffer for his trade....he was unlucky to get what happened to him but it was the pure brutality of the man who could soak up so much when others could not....if there is any blame it should be on the shoulders of his trainers and managers
job biscuit (numpty...say nothing if you do not know what your talking abt)!!!
eh eh!!!
ha, im not sure you read my post did you?
are you replying to someone else?
Re: Did the Rabbit punches do McCclellan in?
Not this crap again :p As big a Benn fan as I am I always hate the fact that some mistake cheering the victor the same as being glad as seeing McClellan lose. The final circumstances were tragic but only after the fight unfolded and was tremendous. This could and can be any fight, on any night, on any pay scale and as much as we celebrate them we can never lose fact that the damage always starts and ends with these men punching one another repeatedly in the face.
