Who would you say is the greatest southpaw(s) of all time?
Who do you think the greatest southpaw boxers are?
-
Re: Who would you say is the greatest southpaw(s) of all time?
Manny Pac
Pernell Whitaker!
-
Certainly not bute or Calzaghe as they wouldn't make it in the top 100
-
Re: Who would you say is the greatest southpaw(s) of all time?
Marvelous Marvin Hagler, although he did not always fight southpaw he
did switch a lot .

Re: Who would you say is the greatest southpaw(s) of all time?
Whitaker
Pacquiao
Hagler
amazingly enough although not the greatest southpaw Moorer has to go down as one of the best, he was an amazing fighter before moving up to HW
-
Re: Who would you say is the greatest southpaw(s) of all time?
Top 3 are definitely Sweetpea, Pacman and Hagler.

Moorer was a vicious puncher at light heavy but did not challenge the best fighters at that weight to be considrede amazing.
Segio Martinez has done better.

If I'm not mistaken, I could swear I've seen Mike Tyson fight southpaw in one of his earlier fights. (Not sure how he faired as a southpaw and I'm not even one hundred percent positive I've actually seen him fight left-handed).

He use to finish off his opponents sometimes in a southpaw stance like against Holmes. Someone said he was left handed but do not know if that is true.

Re: Who would you say is the greatest southpaw(s) of all time?
Fighters not mentioned would be Michael Nunn, Joel Casamayor, Chris Byrd and I believe Carmen Basillio was a southpaw.
-
Re: Who would you say is the greatest southpaw(s) of all time?
What about Vincente Saldivar? Still put Hagler and maybe Manny above though.
-
Re: Who would you say is the greatest southpaw(s) of all time?
Have to go Pernell off the top. Def Saldivar. Theres boat loads that were quality. Personal favs had to be Yoko Gushiken, Mark f'kn Johnson. Marvin Johnson, not the best by far but you'll find no bigger heart. Camacho :-X Hill and J Watanabe were not too shabby.

Slim pickings at southpaw if Chris Byrd has to be on this list.

Thats a bit harsh. Calzaghe got to be in the top 10. Hagler took more risk though so deserves top spot.

Ignore the troll

Between Whitaker and pacquiao but I always thought zab Judah was one of the best fighters and could've been one of the best to ever fight if he would've trained harder. I'll just say he could have been the best in my eyes. But we never go to see his full potential.

Based on what mate? He has failed every single time he fought any elite fighter. His best win was against Corey Spinks and he also lost to him!
Look up 'overrated' in the dictionary and you will see a picture of Zab Judah

I'm basing just on watching how slick and quick he was when he fought. I never said he was THE BEST just saying that if he would've been dedicated completely to the sport he could have been great. I feel that with his speed and technique he could've been a great fighter but because of his stupidity he ruined himself and his career. His left uppercut that comes up when he dodges a jab is a perfect KO punch and he is very good timing it. I just feel that he could've been so much better then what will be remembered.

Re: Who would you say is the greatest southpaw(s) of all time?
I think what people always forget is that discipline and dedication are talents too.
Saying Zab could have been great if he'd had them is like saying Hatton could if he was slicker, smarter etc

Re: Who would you say is the greatest southpaw(s) of all time?
Sweet pea would be number one for me and if we're counting the Amature's I would have to say Guillermo Rigondeaux. I am amazed that a person who's been in the amature's as long a he has actually goes to the body.

Re: Who would you say is the greatest southpaw(s) of all time?
I think the only one not mentioned yet is Ronald 'Winky' Wright. In his day he was fairly unstoppable. Joe Calzaghe deffo deserves top5 status if not higher.
-
Re: Who would you say is the greatest southpaw(s) of all time?
Good call on Galaxy, might be the hardest punching southpaw ever. Maybe not an all time great Zaragoza was a really good Mexican southpaw. Naseem Hamed hasn't been mentioned? I didn't like him but he's probably in the top 10. Obviously Whitaker, Hagler and Pacquiao are the 3 best though imo with Whitaker as the best. Winky was a personal favorite of mine too.

Re: Who would you say is the greatest southpaw(s) of all time?
I figured more would have been added by now...
Anyhow.
Here are two I would at least mention.
Zapata
Elorde

Re: Who would you say is the greatest southpaw(s) of all time?
Not above many of the ones previously mentioned but what about Jim Watt?
Or maybe I'm just older than everyone else.
