Would Andre Ward have won if he hadn't landed so many low blows?
I get the sense he may still have pulled it out as it really look like kovalev was running out of gas fast. There were a couple of early low blows and you never know that could really take the steam out of them as the fight progressed. You know we always say that body punches very very early in the fight I like putting cash in the bank for the later rounds. So it could be that some of those early low blows starting to Tire him out. But some credit to Andre Ward he fought a much better second fight period however and that 8th around that series of three consecutive left hooks below the belt was the most disgusting and flagrant display I have ever seen of breaking the law besides maybe when Chuck wepner hit Muhammad Ali over 75 times with rabbit punches and was never warned once. I don't even want to see Andre Ward fight again he should be ashamed of himself. Who could be happy scoring a knockout with 3 low blows in a row?

Difficult to tell. Kovalev won the first half of the fight comfortably for me, but he still took some proper stick to the body, some legal, some not. It caught up with him pretty quick. Remove the low blows, the fight does not end there in the 8th. Who goes on to take it, a tough one.

Memphis do you see kovalev as may be getting a second wind? For some reason the way he looks in the second part of the seventh round and all through the 8th round he look like he was totally shot. Roy Jones may have been correct he said he could tell that kovalev was finished after the fourth round in terms of conditioning

Yes Andre Ward would have won probably by stoppage later in the fight. Kov had put alot of work early and built up a lead, although not by the official judges, but was tiring. Ward would have got the decision if it went to points.

Yeah he would have, kov was knackered with or without the low shots, the low shots just denied ward a controversy free win

Ward won fair and square by hitting him in his bollocks.:vd:

Probably won't be a popular opinion on here, but while some shots were under Kov's belt, i felt like his trunks were high (at his navel) and Andre landed legal shots. Don't know how many on this forum competed, but you can tell when an individual breaks mentally. Kov was showing signs leading up to the eighth that he was starting to break, and that big right pushed him over the edge.
Best thing that happened to Kov was that it was stopped at that point, because it saved him from an extended beating, gave him an excuse for his ego, and didn't levy the additional mental effects of being knocked out cold or made to overtly quit. Ward knew Kov would break mentally and forced him to fight at an uncomfortable pace. Ward was stopping Kov that night no matter what Kov did in there.
