Re: Lamont Peterson retires
Forgot about this one completely, did it happen today or last night:confused: yes definitely time to hang them up, he’s done everything he was going to. hope he made some good money, solid pro with a good backstory, was always classy and gave his all.
Re: Lamont Peterson retires
Always liked Lamont. I’m pretty sure he has his witts about aka not punch drunk. I’m sure he did well enough to retire comfortably. Good luck Lamont. Damn it makes me feel old seeing the fighters I’ve followed retire
Re: Lamont Peterson retires
Solid fighter who i'll remember for being a drugs cheat, getting a robbery over Khan and flattened by Matthysse. Harsh but true.

What was his backstory?

Didn't think he robbed Khan. I just reckon Khan wasn't skilful enough to adapt.

It wasn’t a robbery, but I thought khan deserved the victory

Peterson retires after loss to Lipinets
Lamont Peterson announced his retirement after losing to Sergey Lipinets on Sunday.
The American, 35, was dropped late in the 10th round at the MGM National Harbor after an action-packed fight between two former champions.
After losing, Peterson confirmed the fight – his 41st – would be the last of his professional career.
"It's been a long career, but today is the day and I thank you for the support throughout my career," he told Fox Sports in an in-ring interview.

"I love you all, I'm always going to support this area, but I'm sure it's time for me to hang it up and I just want to say I appreciate you all, thanks a bunch.
"I couldn't go out a better way, at home, main event and this is going to be the last time you see me in the ring. Thanks for everything."
Peterson (35-5-1) finishes his career as a former WBO and IBF light-welterweight champion.
Lipinets (15-1) landed the decisive blows towards the end of the 10th round, dropping Peterson.

He and his brother were left homeless as really young kids, their trainer took them in and became a father figure to them. Liked that they were always soft spoken and nice guys considering what that would’ve turned some people into.
Re: Lamont Peterson retires
Good to see him call it a day he was reacting strange and looked like he had a bag of hornets tied over his head by the end. Easy to chalk it up to Lipinets being the better fight and credit due but Petterson had a long run. All things considered he seemed like an over achiever and a guy who often got stuck between styles and tried to bang it out.

I agree about his style. He seemed like he was a brawler that should have been more of a boxer. He just didn’t have the power or output to bring his style to the elite status. He just lost to Garcia and IMO just lost to khan. He had some close fights but lost his best ones. He beat a few pretty good fighters though.

Khan was certainly more skillfull than Peterson, the ref was a joke, point deductions and constant warnings, then the "hat man" scoring controversy and to top it all off Peterson got done/admitted cheating with testosterone injections. :D
Re: Lamont Peterson retires
Ok, but khan is a loser so it was funny. He should fight guys juiced up with crooked refs more often.
Not about to re watch it, but wasn’t it two points the ref took away? I remember thinking it was very close assuming the judges had to count that, which they do. So not really a robbery by definition. Also, a complete technicality and I could be wrong, but Peterson had a pellet put into his armpit rather than injections. Therefore he tested positive for “synthetic” testosterone but not elevated levels, at least I believe . If guys do get injections but are within the “normal” range they won’t test positive from what I know, so Peterson probably wishes he did do that.
Re: Lamont Peterson retires
Can't remember details just controversy. Peterson getting done for juicing was hilarious after all the scoring and reffing shenanigans and "nice guy" history :D
Re: Lamont Peterson retires
It’s not cheating if it’s against Khan ok, and he didn’t test positive or have a ref on his side in any other fights, it’s a non starter. And he is a nice guy!
