Josh Warrington must defend IBF featherweight title against mandatory Kid Galahad
Warrington will seemingly be forced to defend against mandatory challenger Kid Galahad at the start of 2019.
The Sheffield man won a final eliminator for the title by outpointing Toka Kahn Clary on October 20 and has since repeatedly stated that he’s been told his shot would come next.
It was originally thought that Warrington could sidestep this mandatory by agreeing a unification bout with one of the other featherweight champions and gaining an exception from the IBF.
However, the governing body have now exclusively stated to talkSPORT.com that this will not be the case.

If he is not going to Fight Frampton in a rematch I would rather he fought Valdez even if it is for the WBO belt. Warren could make it happen too.

Warren on the Galahad clash
Warren, Warrington’s promoter, categorically ruled out a meeting with Galahad and responded to a question about his chances of an immediate IBF shot by saying: “What do you think?“Any fight with Josh in now is appealing. If you had the list, that list of fights, and you wrote it on a length of wallpaper that (Galahad) would be at the bottom.”

Warrington has shown he is a world class fighter and would wipe out Galahad. It would be an easy defence for him to make.

Had to google him... same guy who was in that cringeworthy bullying video with Saunders a while back, and took his name from a bad Elvis movie 100 years ago because his real one sucks too much. Hope he fights Anthony Joshua in a back alley for 10 cents.

Josh Warrington may vacate world title to take mystery fight instead of mandatory challenger Kid Galahad, hints promoter Frank Warren
The IBF featherweight champion will make his choice this week
Josh Warrington has been ordered to defend his IBF featherweight world title against Kid Galahad next and his only other option is to vacate the belt.
The champion claimed his crown from Lee Selby in an impressive upset last May and then made a thrilling first defence against Carl Frampton in December.
However, Warrington had to get an IBF exception to face Frampton, meaning that he now cannot acquire another (due to the governing body’s rules) and so must face mandatory challenger Galahad next if he wants to keep his title.
Promoter Eddie Hearn, on behalf of Kid Galahad, put an early end to the negotiations period and called for an immediate purse bid which is scheduled for Thursday, January 24.
Meanwhile, Hearn’s rival promoter Frank Warren (who represents Warrington) has been negotiating a mystery alternative option for the Leeds man.

“I met up with Josh to plan his next moves,” Warren explained, “Obviously his IBF mandatory fight against Kid Galahad is currently out to purse bids.
“We do, however, have another offer on the table that we will make a decision on this week.”
It’s speculated that any potential fight to tempt Warrington to vacate his belt must have another world title at stake.
WBO champion Oscar Valdez and WBA champion Leo Santa Cruz are both scheduled to return in the next month, and have both mentioned the Brit as a potential future foe.
