Why doesn't Hatton keep his hands up?
As a fighter who always comes forward I have no idea why Hatton doesn't keeps his hands up coming forward anymore... Against Mayweather I can understand not being able to keep with Floyd without dropping your hands a little, but against guys like Lazcano, Urango, etc he was getting hit by guys 5 times slower than him. Also what happen to that lateral movement he used to use when his opponent was on the ropes? Its like he isn't even the same guy, and I don't get how he's getting technically worse, you would think a knockout would knock some sense back into him and fix his mistakes, but it hasn't.
I would also like to add that if he took a little off the gas peddle coming forward and picked his oppertunities better I could see HAtton fighting still for a long time, he is still incredibly fast, and when he isn't coming in blindly he's a lot harder to hit. I hope he can change his mentality to better suit a longer career.
Re: Why doesn't Hatton keep his hands up?
Hatton style is already set. He'll never change it.
Re: Why doesn't Hatton keep his hands up?
Plus I think plainly he just got used to knocking guys out.. He's never really minded getting hit in the process of busting up his opponents, but as he's gone on, it's almost like he's learnt that he can come in, take blows, and still knock people out and win the fight.... It's worked most of the time.. And his on real genuine loss is to Mayweather who is the P4P best fighter, so it's no shame to lose to him (unless you get knocked with a left hook into the corner post.... Kidding guys :))
So really I think his success has let him get a little more lazy and be a bit more gung ho to get the fight over and done with....
Like VD said, I don't think he's going to change that... I'd love to see him with some more head movement and not so much diving in with his left hook and then getting clinched by his opponents..
Re: Why doesn't Hatton keep his hands up?
I really can seeing Hatton changing his style, but I really wish he'd learn to fight away more
Re: Why doesn't Hatton keep his hands up?
As said before i think its just his natural way of fighting through his opponents that ricky has come to adopt the style of occasionally leading in with his hands waist high.
Hattons got a pretty solid chin that he really doesnt get enough respect for, i remember seeing jon thaxton and eamonn magee pepper him with some beautys that hatton always seemed to be able to take.
Sure it would be better for him to fight hands up ala cotto, de la hoya etc. But its the old cliche of old dogs, new tricks and who can honestly question someones style when they are a 2 weight world champion and ranked number 1 in their division by a considerable distance
Re: Why doesn't Hatton keep his hands up?
Hatton has an alright chin, I mean COllazo hurt him. IMO Hatton's lack of stamina lately has had an adverse affect on his chin.
Re: Why doesn't Hatton keep his hands up?
Hmmm...
He's never been the same since his mulit-million dollar pay days.

Thaxton and Magee arnt world class and never have been so Hatton should be able to walk thro them although he got hurt against Magee he won every round after that.

I don't know what you're talking about. Hatton already does a great job of blocking punches with his face.
Re: Why doesn't Hatton keep his hands up?
It's worked for him all but once, if he could figure out a way to block and constantly punch he probably would.

You sure about that??
Hatton won the fight by 2-3 rounds, to suggest a near shutout is absurd.
Magee can crack a punch and had hatton on the canvas with his 1st real shot of the fight, ricky knew the only way he was gonna beat eamonn was to be brave and take his punches head on so he could pop a few of his own.
Thaxton bullied hatton for parts of there fight and while i dont suggest that wasnt partly due to ricky being cut from ear to ear, he again had to face up to thaxton in order to beat him.
Re: Why doesn't Hatton keep his hands up?
Because he sucks!!
Now, the politically correct commentary:
Hatton is a limited fighter who makes up for this fact because of his physical superiority over all opponents at 140 (and 140 only) and because of his toughness and relentlessness. Other than that, I have never enjoyed a Hatton performance. They all seem too sloppy and too much grappling and although I do enjoy some of the brutality he inflicts on some (ahh those body shots!!), Hatton is just a technically sloppy/limited fighter, who, the more he fights, the more it becomes evident that his chin is glass-like.
Re: Why doesn't Hatton keep his hands up?
If he kept his hands up he couldn't hold now could he? Duh.
Re: Why doesn't Hatton keep his hands up?
Does he spar like he fights? If so he is not going to have a brain in his head for his life after boxing.
Re: Why doesn't Hatton keep his hands up?
Ricky suffers from hypr extension of the elbows on both arms, as a result it's elbows out hands at chest height, full steam ahead.
