The five greatest chins in boxing history
Who agrees/Disagrees
Vitali Klitschko was never put down and Hagler only once which was dubious (slip) Holyfield had a cracking chin but was put down 3 times i think.

Eubanks Snr had a great chin took the bombs of Benn and was only down on a slip
Re: The five greatest chins in boxing history

Joe's was a flash knockdown and Watson beat him up for 11 brutal rounds and that was near exhaustion.
Anyone who can take Benn's bombs carrying his hands so low deserves a mention.
Carl Thompson could not knock him down.
Re: The five greatest chins in boxing history
The stats on George Chuvalo are amazing.
93 fights at Heavyweight and never put down!
Plus he mixed it with some huge punchers
Re: The five greatest chins in boxing history
Hagler deserves a spot over Toney for sure. Toney was down and visibly hurt at middleweight.

I bet Hagler couldn't go up to HW and do what Toney did though. Toney was just hungry at MW, it would get any man down.
Re: The five greatest chins in boxing history
Just because a guy has been on the canvas, I don't think that discounts them from having a great chin. Ali and Froch for example.
Anybody can hit the canvas if they get hit right, having a great chin is about how you react, survival instinct etc.
The same as having a shit chin is all about your reaction/instinct (e.g. Khan.)

True, Carl Froch had a solid chin and took some huge shots and got up. The one he got up from Groves was a huge shot.

But I think it does disqualify them from a prestigious chin. Toney had an excellent chin but proved that he could be hurt by a MW. Hagler never seemed hurt other than maybe you could argue Hearns hurt him a bit but it’s debatable.
Re: The five greatest chins in boxing history
George Foreman Mike Tyson Muhammad Ali Joe Frazier Evander Holyfield

Bonavena had him stumbled and sitting on a rope and some say pure slip. Chin is still pure granite considering what he's dealt with in later life!
Re: The five greatest chins in boxing history
Always have to put top for me Juan Laporte. Far as I know never dropped and only stoppage was between rounds at very end. Face serious leather from Azumah Nelson, Sanchez, Tszyu, Pedroza, Chavez, Gomez among others and never budged.
Toney I don't know. Was rocked and dropped at middle, cruiser and Fat Peter dropped him with a jab. To me his mastery was his defense and doesn't fit to site his chin. Sturdy but didn't need to wear it all the time. Then again he went in with serious heavies also and that pack of hotdogs serving as a neck certainly strengthened it.
Marion Wilson absolutely. Maybe a Ross Purity. McCall is standard fair on these lists. Dominick Quinn had titanium teeth. Ben Tackies up there. Of course not greats but hell ;D. Did LaMotta make it?
Re: The five greatest chins in boxing history
Golovkin is the current beard king, as in we've never seen him briefly wobbled let alone down or drunk.

Sure that guy (article writer) used to write for this site, way back in the day?
