RIP Mi Vida Loca.
I don't know a great deal about the man, but from what I've read of his life and upbringing, his managing to accomplish anything is a testament to what a fighter he was, period. People are entitled to feel however they like about the sport of boxing, but the reality is that for some people who have been through such personal hell there is no more realistic prospect to make something positive of it all, if only for a time. RIP.
Rip, but as ya said not really surprised, this was gona happen sooner rather than later sadly
Well this just messed my day up!!! RIP, genuinely one of my favorite fighters to watch over the years.
Very sad, he was always fun to watch. He's had tons of trouble over the years hopefully he is finally at peace.
Rip Johhny. :( day.
RIP
Not surprised, but truly sad news.
RIP Johnny!
The guy had a lot of demons, RIP Johnny Tapia.
yep - sad news but hardly the biggest shock
RIP Johnny T
RIP Johnny. He was 1 of the reasons why I love boxing.
Well this sucks.
Warriors like Tapia seem to burn the candle at both ends, God knows his childhood was a living hell.
He loved to fight and I think lived to fight. After his career was over, well I don't think he adjusted to retirement or accepted it.
R.I.P. you crazy bastard.
I loved watching Tapia. Utter loon. Brilliant.
RIP Johnny Tapia.
What a shame funnily enough few days ago i watched his fights vs Salazar, Johnson, one of the best boxer/punchers you will ever see R.I.P Tapia.
I was just talking to my friend about this. Years ago, my friend did corner sales in Las Vegas, selling artwork, and Johnny Tapia came to one of his sales. They got to talking (my friend is also a former pro boxer) and he told me that, right at the start of the conversation, Tapia told him about seeing his mother being murdered. My friend thought that that was an odd way to start a conversation. He also said that Tapia was very tiny.
Life was a cruel to this human being but that didn't stop him accomplishing something wonderful...you made a big mark while you were here but will leave a bigger mark now you are gone
job biscuit (u will be remembered forever)!!!

Johnny helped me love this sport. He fought and showed a passion and fire in the ring that you can only dream to live life with. He had to be a fighter even after the gloves were off just to stay upright.
Miss you man and hope you find a calm and peace now that often eluded you Johnny. Go easy champ, be at peace.
it's a big shame but it's far from being a big surprise, Johnny Tapia was a true warrior but he was never able to cope with life out of the ring, may he rest in peace
That's sad to hear, RIP tapia.
Absolutely gutted, loved watching this little fireball fight,
another great fighter gone, R.I.P Mr Tapia.
RIP just when I thought he was OK outside of boxing.
An autopsy is planned, hopefully he didn't OD or off himself, the dude was only 45.
Sad, sad. A couple times he seemed to get it together than had that last fight and subsequent overdose a few years back where he had family die on the way visiting him. Sucks :/ rip. no mas vida loca I suppose.
Rip tapia
I usually don't like Kevin Lole as a sportswriter, but this truly is a great article remembering Tapia for anyone who wants to read it.
