Fury-Wilder rematch? Joshua fights one of them? If so, who does the other guy fight?
Thoughts.
I say rematch. That was a surprisingly good fight. Fury came to fight and should've gotten the decision. Wilder DID knock him down twice, however..... the 2nd time was a bomb we're still shaking our heads how Fury got up from.
IMO they earned the right to make some good bucks off each other again.
Joshua didn't want to give either the time of day..... he can now wait in line.
Wilder v Fury again, why not let's get that one rolling. Still feel Wilder needs it much more. I dunno if it's a case of Joshua waiting in line or needing too as they can bring in Miller, resurgent Whyte or Ortiz or strike a swindle with Fury. It was a top notch very entertaining fight but if anything Wilder is the one on reset. I'm actually looking forward to Hunters next fight. Miller and AJ could be entertaining. Can you imagine Fury and Miller promotion and fight hype wise? Two of the best charismatic talkers going ;D.
There's several reasons why I think a rematch would be best. One... the fight ended in a draw. Fury may have deserved the decision, but it was ruled a draw. A rematch is logical. Two... they both put on a good show. Fury surprised many, including me.... and Wilder provided some scintillating moments. A better fight than many expected, again... including me. The fight negotiations were an 180° from the soap opera drama of the Wilder-AJ show. Most fans, again including me, were beyond the point of nausea from the constant back and forth. Fury stepping in and taking the fight provided a welcome respite from the circus. It's not like Joshua doesn't have other options.
Fury deserves the Joshua fight but any matchup between the three will be great. And there's plenty of good challengers for ALL three.
AJ must take on Wilder in April, no excuses. Wilder is there for the taking and it was clear to see.
Otherwise AJ just looks a dick.
Any of the three options would be great, I agree. But Joshua's already got an April date penciled in against a TBA opponent. Why not let Fury and Wilder have a rematch (provided they both want it) and settle that score, while AJ takes on a Whyte or a Miller. That would further hype a fight between AJ and the winner of the Fury-Wilder rematch. The loser of that rematch wouldn't be totally out of the picture either. They've both proven to be championship caliber and should be part of the mix.
why would AJ look a dick? You're assuming AJ Ducked Wilder last time. Maybe he did, maybe he didn't, I don't know.
But what I do now know is that according to Wilder himself, all the time those figures were being banded around last time , he had a broken arm and no intention of fighting in September.
Why would you or your team offer someone $50 million when you have a broken arm and feasibly wouldn't be ready to fight?
Isn't it possible that Team Wilder WERE Bullshitting and Eddie was right?
You might say that Eddie tried to undervalue Wilder. Well after the weekend, it is again entirely plausible to believe that Eddie was right, Because Wilder can't box.
Like I said , I don't know the truth, but there has to be a balance here and relying on facts and not "He said, She said."
Any one of the three would be good but for me personally I'd like to see the rematch so Fury can get the official win.
OK we're in a situation right now with the heavyweights we haven't been in in a LOOOONG time. You've got 3 (perhaps more, most likely more) heavies who are perfectly matched against each other and they're all about the same age, they all have unique individual styles, they all have different strengths and weaknesses, and they're all undefeated.
Wilder-Fury was a good first act, but we've got 2 more to go in what should be a 3 fight series...#1 a draw, #2 hopefully a decisive win, #3 hopefully another decisive win (either way).
So right now Anthony Joshua is seemingly left without a dance partner or at least a recognized threat of a dance partner, it seems as though whoever he chooses he's going to be seen as fighting a lower level but he's the champ so everyone else IS a lower level or should be.
AJ has some wonderful options out there:
Jarrell 'Big Baby' Miller
Dillian Whyte II
Kubrat Pulev
Luis Ortiz
Robert Helenius
I'd say Hrgovic but I think he needs a little more prepping before he gets that title shot, looks good so far though. All the fighters listed would be DECENT opposition for AJ, I like the Big Baby match, I like the rematch vs Whyte, I think Pulev, Ortiz, Helenius would just be seen as just dangerous enough to keep AJ focused and should be seen as solid opponents. It would be nice if Breazeale was more active, but I guess we'll see because he would have been a good option too.
I think Povetkin showed he is still dangerous and could beat many on the list.
You're right - three great heavies with completely different styles.
And each one a 50-50 with anyone being able to beat the other on their day.
They could make a fortune just having a home and away round robin series over the next two years - and wouldn't we love to see it ?
And the time is absolutely right too!!! But promoters and managers and the fighters themselves even will end up cocking it up for everyone else.
I mean I'm not going to immediately say that any of the three are automatically All-Time Greats or anything, I just think 1. styles make fights 2. they've all won all their fights up to this point YET all of them are questioned about their resumes so the only way to fix that is to fight each other.
It's SIMILAR to where the division was with Ali-Frazier-Foreman, but these guys ain't Ali-Frazier-Foreman they deserve their own space to show the fans who they are as fighters.
You could make an absolute DREAM card of the fights we never got to see. These guys have an opportunity to....
Make
Boxing
Great
Again
;D
Now, I personally, I'm not a fan of any of the guys individually, but as a fan of the sport, make the fucking big fights everyone wants to see it's THE A#1 problem in the sport today along with shitty judging.
Big shift in that Deontay holds all the cards. The fight sold well 17,000 tickets, 5 million plus gate, 300+ to near 400k PPV sales. Knowing fighters first PPV fight isn’t their strongest, the action in the fight will bring better sales. He could fight either and it would make bank. The same could be said for AJ or Tyson except without Deontay the lose the US money.
AJ is suddenly the one most in need of them 2 as they proved willing to fight by fighting.
For Deontay the smart move would be to cash out with AJ, the bold move would be to rematch Fury if he believes he can win. If he were to beat Fury in a rematch he makes huge money with that and huge money against AJ.
I really don't think joshua is in need of anyone, he's the English alvarez, as in he can sell tickets v any mug... he's got the most belts too.. Joshua is in a very good position unless he performs a self destructive bungle.
Id like to see fury v joshua, as I now think joshua would ealk through him pretty easily, and also big baby v wilder, big baby would stop wilder I think, then you get miller v joshua for all the belts...
Bit drunk but wotever. G
Voted AJ vs Fury. But I'm happy with any combination really.
Joshua- to me- has been put to the sideline until the Fury/Wilder matter has been settled. Joshua should have taken a fight against either- Don't even mention Joshua's name until we have decided who to adorn with GLORY from the Wilder/Fury affair.
With that being said: Joshua can find some fight to make just as much money of what Wilder/Fury got for their fight with less the risk that fight fans want to see! For example, the Povetkin fight was ok. Could have been sold a little more- But it was ok and you could have BELIEVED Povetkin could have done something because of his pedigree. We even gave Povetkin a pass after that Wlad loss due to Wlad's hugging and holding which he should have been greatly penalized for!
Joshua vs.- Ruiz, Jennings, Miller, Bryan, Pulev, or even Rivas and Ortiz could be fights well worth the watch UNTIL Fury/Wilder has been satisfactorily settled.
In fact, I see a Wilder/Fury trilogy WHICH WOULD KEEP US ENTERTAINED even without Joshua's name being mentioned at all!
I would love to have a unified champ. Which is why I choose Wilder vs Joshua for the 2019 start and the winner to face Fury at years end. But I think Joshua will duck and dodge for as long as he can.
I guess I don't get the feel of AJ being surpassed in some way. Wilder and Fury turned into a good scrap but also a glaring case of styles making fights and either was capable of convincingly and completely separating himself from the other..bs scoring aside. Fury wasn't supposed to come out of this with a sense of being reinvented and all that glory ;D. They pulled respectable numbers but honestly imo, they're still not fighting to determine #1, they're fighting to determine who will face #1. Have to love the way Fury is still shining in aftermath and already putting their names out though..he's become various walking memes and all of it will bolster sales. Heavyweights are looking good though, the division has some breath running through the lungs and many interesting options for fans.
Think it best Wilder clears up unfinished business with Fury and clear victory will give him more ground and prize with Joshua. I don't think AJ doubts he can beat Wilder buy why expect him or any other boxer to clamor for a guy who just got early Christmas gifts and came in 2nd place.
No different than most fighters through the ranks really, just in a louder more heavily advertised package really. Wilder packs bricks but he'd be better suited to work on his delivery system and gears than to think all he needs is to clump a guy once or twice and call it a day. Fair to say that's why he finds himself in the exact situation and do over he's in now.
No I got you there. I was just addressing your "why expect him (AJ) or any other boxer to clamor for a guy (Wilder) who just....."
Point is, Wilder is probably seen, if he wasn't already, as an "not much to gain, with everything to lose" type of opponent. You can thoroughly outbox the guy for 12 rounds (a la Sergio vs. Junior) and then get caught in the 12th round. If you win a decision, people will say Wilder can't box. If he catches you with one shot, it's lights out. It's sort of a lose-lose proposition.
Ah the ol risk vs reward good point. Can see that had the judges preformed and the trinket fallen away rightfully to Fury. In the aftermath he was schooled. But he did manage good crowd numbers also thanks in large part to Fury so can't knock him there. He was and is still the best we can muster in 'Murica. But I see no ground where Joshua should be expected to 'need' Wilder save for the trinket around his waist until he at least settles up Fury. I swear belts are so overrated ;D.
wilder is not the best the usa can muster, that would be big baby miller... the 300+lb guy :S.......
pretty sure hearn is like the evil witch from hansel and gretel, he wants to feed big baby and fatten him up so he can feed him to joshua.... He doesnt care about big baby and getting him some good fights to test himself, just keep fattening him up till its dinner time.. Its a shame, I really think if big baby was around 275-280 he'd be very dangerous, 300+ looks to be limiting his movement quite badly. I am president of the pacific north west big baby fanclub.
Miller eyeing Joshua bout at Madison Square Garden
https://s.yimg.com/it/api/res/1.2/w7...2a0c5710d2632c
Jarrell Miller wants Anthony Joshua to make his American debut by facing him in a heavyweight title bout at Madison Square Garden.
Joshua, the WBA, WBO and IBF world champion, and Miller were at the Garden on Saturday to watch Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez defeat Rocky Fielding.
The Briton has made no secret of his desire to unify the heavyweight division by fighting WBC title holder Deontay Wilder, who fought to a thrilling draw with Tyson Fury in Los Angeles this month.
A rematch between Wilder and Fury has already been sanctioned by the WBC and could scupper Joshua's hopes of taking on the American for the time being.
Joshua has Wembley booked for April 13 for a fight with an as yet unconfirmed opponent.
However, Miller, who boasts an unbeaten 23-0-1 record, has his sights set on a meeting with Joshua on the other side of the Atlantic.
"AJ is a great champion, doing his thing outside and inside the ring, but sooner or later I'm going to punch him in the face," Miller told Sky Sports.
"Anybody that has the belt, that's how I feel. I feel like I can beat AJ any day, I know I can beat Deontay.
"If AJ wants to come to America, this is the place to do it, and I'm the man to punch him in the face."
Eddie Hearn, who serves as promoter for both Joshua and Miller, added: "I do know that Anthony Joshua against Jarrell Miller at Madison Square Garden would be something very, very special.
"Jarrell is doing great, he's going to come over to Britain I believe for the Dillian Whyte fight [against Dereck Chisora next week], and he's doing great things.
"Probably the most active heavyweight out there at the moment, and I tell you, Joshua against Miller is going to be a big fight in time. You never know, you might see it sooner than you think."

Was thinking earlier if I was Wilder I’d take the Joshua fight next.
Even if he loses which I think he would he’d still have unfinished business with Fury so would get both fights pay day.
Lose to Fury in rematch and I can’t see him getting AJ fight at all.
This has probably been said before in this or another thread by someone so please don’t think I’m plagiarising.
There will be a lot of games being played by all but I would prefer to see AJ v Wilder in April.
It will be exciting and I think AJ knocks out Wilder cold.
RICKY HATTON Tyson Fury is heavyweight No1 ahead of Anthony Joshua – AJ spent too long talking about Deontay Wilder and not fighting him
The Hitman was in the Gypsy King's corner on December 1 and, although he loves AJ, he sees his man as the top dog
TYSON FURY is king of the heavyweight decision after Anthony Joshua spent two years talking about Deontay Wilder, instead of fighting him.
AJ and promoter Eddie Hearn have been locked in frustrating talks with American WBC champ, who has the only belt missing from the Brit’s collection , trying to plan an undisputed decider.
Watford’s WBA, WBO and IBF king has refused to give the 33-year-old the 50-50 split he has demanded and AJ knocked back a £40million April offer to meet in the US.
The impasse allowed Fury, 30, to recover from his mental health problems and leap into a Los Angeles clash with the Bronze Bomber on Dec 1 that ended in a controversial draw.
And Hatton, who was in the Gypsy King’s corner but enjoys a close friendship with Josh, says Fury is the boss after walking the walk while Joshua was too busy talking.
He said: “If Tyson had the WBC title I think most people would still see Anthony as the No1.
“Personally, I see Tyson as No1. He never lost his belts in the ring and he has just boxed Wilder, an unbeaten champion with an unbelievable knockout record and he did it in his backyard.
“In the two years Tyson has battled back to do that fight, Eddie Hearn and Anthony – and I love Anthony by the way – they have been negotiating.
“They spent two years sat around a table haggling over this and that and Tyson has gone and done it.
“People will not share my opinion and I probably am a little bit bias but Tyson, the lineal champion, went over and did that and I think he needs the respect he deserves.
“Joshua’s team have been talking about Joshua vs Wilder for two years now but while they have been talking about it, Tyson has gone and done it.”
Fury’s masterful performance and his super-human strength to climb off the canvas in rounds nine and 12 proved his 2015 win over Wladimir Klitschko was no fluke.
The 30-year-old’s controversial comments, before and after clinching the three major belts AJ now holds, made him an unpopular figure.
But Hatton, who battled depression and addiction like the 6ft 9in ace, wants his incredible comeback story to win people over once and for all.
He said: “Tyson has probably opened his mouth a few too many times over the years, he has probably had a pop at everyone at one time or another.
“But from a boxing point of view he has travelled to fight Klitschko and Wilder on their soil to prove that he walks the walk as well as talks the talk.
“Everything he has said he has backed up.
“In the past you would be forgiven for thinking he was full of rubbish but he speaks the truth, he has proved it. The proof is in the pudding.”

Joshua vs. Wilder is the fight I most want to see.
But Wilder's handlers are scared to death of Joshua, so I doubt it ever happens.
These two would make for a good matchup:
